We are delighted to offer this superb driving, very well-presented Morris Oxford onto the market. We have previously sold the Morris one two occasions, most recently in 2018 to a local long-term customer and back in 2015 to an enthusiast up in the Lake District. Prior to 2015 the Morris had spent some time in the Beamish Collection and is believed to be one of few Oxford Doctors Coupe survivors. The Coupe is a rare car, but this model being the more powerful Oxford is incredibly desirable and is a real collector's piece. More recently the Morris has been subject of a major mechanical overhaul and comes back to us in exceptional mechanical condition.
The Morris comes with a comprehensive history file that includes previous owner correspondence detailing that the Morris was discovered in an old barn in Bovingdon Green near Chesham in Buckinghamshire back in the 1960's. The Oxford needed major restoration and it was soon purchased by an engineer and taken to his engineering business in Marlow. Some work was carried out by the owner, but his growing business meant he did not get chance to finish the Oxford so some years later he sold the car and eventually, by the early 1980's the Morris was fully rebuilt and put into lovely condition throughout. We have photographs of the car in various stages including several images of the rolling chassis with the body removed. Mechanicals were fully rebuilt, the body rebuilt and the upholstery re-trimmed and restored as necessary.
We have MOT certificates dating back to the mid 1990's and the vehicle now records around 11000 miles. In 1995 the mileage was 6500 so we know the Morris has had very low use in the recent years. The Morris spent three years in the Lakes and had proven totally reliable and very easy to own. Prior to this, the Morris had successfully completed the Beamish run in the North East and had various work carried out by MacDonald Racing in County Durham. This work includes stripping the diff and replacing the crown wheel and pinion. Having covered very little mileage in the year or so before coming back to us, a program of mechanical work was undertaken in 2018 costing over £12,000. The Morris was treated to a new clutch plate, bearing, pressure plate, clutch separator springs and pins, new spigot bearing, new exhaust manifold gasket set, new crank shaft gears, front cam upper gears, new leaf spring shackles and washers, re-lined front brakes, new front king pins, rebuilt radiator and new dyno start drive chain. Cosmetic work included a brand new wool headlining.
The Morris has come back to us in exceptional mechanical condition having had an engine strip down and major work carried out in 2018. We can report the car has a lovely, strong engine and sound gearbox and ML 9361 starts well, drives incredibly well and is a fabulous fun on the road. The Oxford presents very well and has nicely aged since restoration. The car was clearly rebuilt to a very high standard and we can see that from checking the vehicle over and seeing the level of detail and work carried out when it was restored. The paint work has a lovely aged look with nice older deep paint and the body is straight with excellent panels. The upholstery was re-trimmed many years ago now but retains a lovely patina and the new wool headlining looks beautiful. ML 9361 is a very honest, rare and collectable Oxford that can be driven with confidence.
