MGC Convertible 1968

Owned by me for the last 10 years, bought from an elderly couple at 61000 miles who had owned her for 30 years. They had a full body and chassis restoration carried out by an MG specialist [Brown and Gammon] in the mid 90s. What attracted me most was how genuine clean and unmolested she was with an absolutely beautiful interior and dashboard.

Since purchase we have added another 38000 miles mostly a mix of long continental and UK tours and she has never missed a beat!!

Detailed comprehensive history file with old MOTs invoices and schedule of works carried out and photographic record of the bare metal repaint.

Serviced Annually irrespective of mileage. Front king- pins greased 2/3 times a year.

Has been garaged all her life. Since my purchase, been kept in a modern underfloor heated garage.

Never taken out in the rain or during the winter months.

In excess of £21000.00 spent on improvements and upgrades during my ownership.

Work and improvements carried out since purchase:

Full professional Bare Metal respray in original colour, with photographic record showing bodyshell doors bonnet and boot lid, completely stripped to bare metal. everything removed from body including complete windscreen surround, doors, bonnet and boot lid.

Engine fully rebuilt by MG specialist [A J Barnard & Son] and upgraded to enhance torque and smoothness, to include new reprofiled camshaft, gas flowed and unleaded cylinder head, 6 branch exhaust manifold, re faced and lightened flywheel with new clutch assy, hi torque starter motor, alternator, electronic ignition coil and lead set. Carbs stripped and rebuilt with new spindles, needles and K&N air filters. Rebuilt distributor. Then the complete bottom end including clutch and flywheel assy was electronically balanced. Con rods and pistons weight balanced.

After 1000 miles engine tuned on Rolling Road, with print out of BHP and Torque Curve.

Gearbox overdrive and back axle rebuilt by Hardy Engineering [highly regarded experts].

New Hydraulic power steering including new rack [kit supplied by MGOC].

Full suspension overhaul to include re bushed front king pins, 4 adjustable Spax S/Absorbers, 2 new rear leaf springs with new shackles and bushes, and all suspension and steering components shot blasted and re-sprayed.

Full brake overhaul to include new front discs and pads [and wheel bearings], new rear wheel cylinders shoes and drums, new flexi hoses and brake pipes with new servo and rebuilt and resleeved[stainless] master cylinder.

New contactless electric fuel pump with new fuel lines and inline fuel filter.

New Bespoke Hi Capacity Aluminium radiator, with 2 electric fans, with override switch and warning light on centre console, all water hoses and clips replaced. Re-cored hi capacity heater matrix [heater really good].

New 5.5 J painted wire wheels with 185/65/15 tyres.

Refoamed seat bases and the leather trim is treated and fed annually.

Every Autumn light pressure wash to underside of car, then when dry light waxoil over all fuel/brake pipes and complete underside.

Single 12v battery conversion, with secret cut out/isolation switch

Rear no plate very neatly recessed into bodywork.

All body cavities/chassis rails/sills fully re wax injected. [2011]

Halogen head lights.

12v socket in centre console for Sat Nav/phone charger etc.

Extremely smooth quiet and torquey engine, but can really lift her skirt when pressed.

The paintwork is still immaculate, a testament to the quality of the body restoration work and the repaint which was carried out 8 years ago.

Chrome and trim all excellent with the interior still just as lovely, with real Patina.

To fully appreciate my car’s condition, and the way she drives and feels on the road, you need to see her and go for a drive in her. My car also has the higher ratio back axle so motorway cruising is relaxed and easy. I thought we would keep her for ever, but there is a very genuine reason for sale. Please phone to discuss further.
