10,931 Corvettes C1 were built by Chevrolet in 1961. Only 3,178 were delivered in Ermine white. Fewer still in Ermine white with blue grey coves. Of those still in existence, this gorgeous, head-turning, tri-tone 1961 C1 is a stunning example of its kind.
The car was imported into the UK in July 2018 in need only of some tender loving care. This was painstakingly provided by the peerless specialist Corvette restorer, Matt Davison of CCM Vettes in Kent, UK. A new white canvass soft top was added and a new Sportsman Red interior was fitted. This included new seat upholstery, new carpets, new red and chrome door cards and a new red boot mat. New weather strips were fitted all round. The paint work was beautifully touched up where needed and polished to perfection. The engine bay was completely steam cleaned and a new battery was fitted.
The 1961 C1 was the last year that two-tone paintwork could be ordered from the factory and it was the first year to include the four tail lights that we now expect on a Corvette. The base engine was still supplied with a stamped valve cover with the iconic Chevrolet script. 1961 was also the last year for the 283 CID engines and it was the year courtesy lights, windscreen washers, temperature controlled radiator fan, sun shades and a parking brake warning light all became standard.
This Corvette has matching serial and engine serial numbers. The serial number (Vehicle Identification Number) is 10867S109946 and the engine serial number is 1109946 F062200.
Tt has a four-speed manual gearbox and is equipped with post-factory fitted power brakes. The V-8 overhead valve 283-CID (4.6 litre) engine supplying 230 bhp runs beautifully, growls sumptuously and doesn’t leak. On the road, the car drives and handles very nicely.
The white-walled tyres are in perfect harmony with the beautiful white bodywork, while the hubcaps for the wheels are original. The valuable convertible hard-top is in excellent condition and easily removed and refitted.
The car recently looked absolutely fabulous as it conveyed the owners’ daughter to her dream wedding and now, job done, must reluctantly be sold. It is available for viewing in West Kent, UK.
