My lovely 1990, (1991 Model year) 2 door, Range Rover. Declared new at first registration on the 18th December, 1990 and registered to Land Rover, Solihull, UK.
This is a very rare example of a UK registered late 2 door model, produced after the CSK model.
I am the 3rd registered keeper of this Range Rover.
The Range Rover was first registered to Land Rover UK and used to showcase improvements to the basic 2 door model for the French market. It spent 1991 being shown round Land Rover dealers in France, where the basic tax break 2 door Range Rover model was being considered for a more luxurious finish.
As such, despite being UK registered since it came off the production line, my Range Rover started life as a LHD, 2.5VM Turbo diesel with manual 5 speed gearbox. It was additionally fitted with remote central locking, electric windows, mirrors and electric glass tilt and slide roof to highlight these luxuries to potential customers.
In 1992 the car was no longer required for the overseas marketing /development purposes it was intended, so it returned to Land Rover and the Solihull factory where it was converted to RHD and released for 1st and only retail sale through the Land Rover main dealer, Dutton Forshaw.
It was at this time that it was purchased by the previous registered keeper to me, who used, kept and loved the car for the next 26 years and 117,000 miles completing meticulous records of ownership and spending not inconsiderable amounts on maintenance and upkeeping, most notedly upgrading the 2.5VM diesel unit, with a brand new, £7000 2.8 HS International engine 136 BHP from Motor and Diesel, which is basically a reworked and improved Land Rover 300Tdi unit developed for the South American market.
The car has only covered 4000 or so miles since then, due to the former keeper placing the car into storage due to medical issues.
The former keeper sold the car in 2018 to a classic car trader, who gave the car a panel off restoration, including roof. A new head cloth was installed, a full respray in original Cairngorm Brown Metallic, and later colour coded Vogue alloys and Efi spoiler fitted.
I purchased the Range Rover in April this year and have enjoyed several thousand miles use and attending several Classic car shows. Whilst in very good condition, with all original interior and exterior areas showing no signs of wear, it does have a couple of issues. I had it recently serviced and the timing belt and associated items replaced at my local Land Rover specialist. When it was in with them they noted that the transfer box viscous unit was starting to seize, and I requested the front propshaft be removed to avoid damage to the axles. The car would benefit from suspension bushes being replaced as they are tired after almost 30 years. A used replacement viscous unit and new bushes, standard and poly bush sets will go with the car.
A really nice and original late 2 door Range Rover in RHD with similar luxuries as found in earlier CSK model with 35mpg economy and loads of power from almost new engine. Full documentation is with the vehicle. A Range Rover that can be used everyday with classic appeal and only appreciating in value.
