Mercedes 500SE, 1989
113,900 miles, lots of history, MOT until 15 Jan 2020.
Has been used and enjoyed, although not so much recently.
I have owned it for quite a while, since May 2015 and hadn't thought I'd be selling it. I've driven it around the UK and France three times on long holidays. It attracts attention as it's a seriously cool car. Being the V8 goes well and sounds great. I have had up to 26 mpg on a long run, but expect 20 - 22 normally.
It's got electric windows, electric seats, air con (see below), electric sunroof (see below), rear screen blind which is unusual on a short wheel base car.
I've done plenty to the car since getting it, replacement rear calipers, some new brake pipes and hoses, new front springs.
The car isn't perfect though has a list of things to improve. The sunroof has never worked, I can hear the cables running, I think the lifter arms have broken.
The air con doesn't work, the condenser leaks, everything else has been replaced, there are receipts for this and I have been working my way round it. But it has been converted to R134a.
The cabin fan stopped working, it started to squeak then stopped at all speeds.
The drivers seat side bolster is worn through, but the rest of the leather is ok. The seats adjust electrically and have worked well.
The steering wheel is off centre, I had had the wheel alignment done and it's all good, I just never took the wheel off to centre it.
I have welded up a little bit underneath, but it's all solid.
All the chrome trims are good with the exception of the two on the sides of the rear bumper. There are receipts for some as they are replacements.
The front wing corners are going as they usually do and they could be repaired, or simply replaced. Wings are still available from Mercedes.
There are also a couple of rattles and squeaks inside, some new clips are needed for the left rear door card, I think I have some somewhere, but I need to check. Also both retaining clips for the sun visors have broken, but they don't drop down.
The paint looks original, so has marks and scratches, but being an unusual metallic green colour does look rather nice.
It is also due a service to keep the book up to date and then using.
I have been as honest as I can as I don't see the point hiding obvious things which can be seen when viewing. But, really nice ones with a little over 100k fetch around 8k, so £2995 is a good starting point for negotiation.
