This car is a real time capsule example of the 1990 E30 BMW 318iS.
Spending the first 29yrs of its life with its original owner, G70 BDP has covered just 113,980 miles or a mere average of circa 3,900 miles a year. The car still retains number plates for a BMW dealership it has outlived, factory hub caps, factory rear spoiler lip, as well as original glass windows with the registration mark embossed. The original first aid kit (captioned Made In West Germany) is still with the vehicle and in the factory shrink wrap. The factory warning triangle remains also.
The car also has a full complement of tools in its toolkit and a myriad of original stickers can be found around the car, attesting to its careful keepership. The car exterior is in Brilliantrot red (0308).
The interior is complimented with Anthracite Uberkaro and leather seats (0379).
Rust is a known concern on this generation of BMWs, and this car is no exception, but through diligent care and being garaged its whole life, rust spots have been addressed accordingly with just mild spots remaining. A schutz layer remains to prevent against stone chips etc. The underside is in very good condition, and the vehicle remains on an original exhaust system, bar the rear silencer which has been replaced with a measured-up, bespoke, fabricated example in stainless steel, as needed per the previous MOT. Crucially, the original and pleasant exhaust note has been retained.
The interior is much the same and has been very well kept.
The rear seats have hardly been used and appear almost new.
The front section is a lovely place to be and has a cocoon like feel for the driver.
Driving is responsive with good power delivery through all the 5 gears.
The M42 1.8L engine is raspy in nature and is happy to hit the higher revolutions.
The manual sunroof works and is both smooth and sublime.
You'll find the boot space clean and tidy, with a full sized spare alloy wheel within.
4x matching reputable Hankook KS tyres, and all have good tread depth.
The car attracts a keen amount of interest and it's easy to discern that there is a keen fan following for the 318iS, or the 'mini M3' as it came to be known. Fitted with the new, 136bhp 1.8L engine designed for the inbound E36 BMW 3Series, the car was also given a 25% LSD, DOHC (dual cam), sport suspension and disc brakes over drums. This car was a celebration of the E30 and as above, with these new design features, was coined the 'mini M3'.
Its rarity can be adequately conveyed with numbers... in production for only 2yrs, the 318iS represented just 1.8% of the total E30 lineup produced globally.
Testament again to the sole previous keeper, making me just the 2nd keeper, the car has an archive of records like no other, covering work carried out. Receipts, invoices, brochures, service booklets, original dealer purchase invoices and build sheets all comprehensively tracking the thorough amount of work carried out since 1990. This must really be seen to be appreciated. HPI clear.
Beyond this, the car has full service history, 10yrs of which was with BMW and the rest with independents. The next MOT is due in May 2020.
