The 280 fuel injected engine was the last and the top of the range to carry these iconic SL ‘Super-Leicht’ Cabrilolets which superseded the iconic 300SL Gullwing and Roadsters. Launched in November 1967 our stunning 280 SL example was built two years later in ’69’. Delivered new to the United States where DD Classics acquired this iconic car. Upon crossing the Atlantic the car has undergone a significant amount of restoration works over the past 12 months which have been personally overseen by the chairman of the business Mr. Daniel Donovan who has owned many of these cars over the past 40 years. The works included a complete re-paint in its original colour of Mercedes non metallic Blue. It was then dispatched for a complete re-trim in the correct OEM specification hide and new correct carpets were also fitted. In addition, a brand new mohair soft top was fitted to the car highly regarded marque specialists. All chrome and woodwork were removed and fully refurbished before being refitted. Upon return to our own in house workshop the SL underwent 300 hours of detailing and fully mechanically sorting. The final finish has now been completed and the car stands proudly on it whitewall tyres awaiting it’s new owner.
The SL Pagoda series has always been a very popular car, with its low wide handsome proportions to its styling features. With the ‘Pagoda’ hardtop fitted the car looks outstanding and with its lid off, the SL is superbly proportioned. fitted with disc brakes, power steering and fuel injection these cars are effortless to drive and have stood the test of time.
