This FIA Appendix K Mustang has been a regular and competitive racer on race tracks around Europe. The previous owner has competed in the FIA European Championship for Historic Touring Cars from 2005-2007, also more recently in the Masters and the 2014 Goodwood Revival Shelby Cup.

• Fully restored and maintained with no expense spared by Italian historic racing specialists, RS Historics, featuring an FIA compliant 289ci engine built by Cobra Automotive Inc. USA at the end of 2012. The Mustang is accompanied FIA HTPs issued in 2015, along with a selection of spares.
Synonymous with names like Steve McQueen, Carroll Shelby and James Garner, the Ford Mustang was a style icon form the moment it was introduced on April the 17th 1964 at the New York World Fair. Epitomizing 1960’s American ‘chic’ and ‘cool’ the Mustang not only won the 1965 Tiffany Gold Medal For Excellence In Design (the first automobile ever to do so), but it was Ford’s most successful launch since the Model A. The brain child of Lee Lacocca the Mustang is one of the most remarkable automotive success stories of modern times and as such is still in production today. Initially based on the second generation Ford Falcon which was already making a name for itself on the racing and rally circuits of the world, the Mustang sold in excess of quarter of a million by the end of 1964 and a staggering 524,791 in 1965, earning Ford a fortune. The Mustang made its first public appearance on a race track little more than a month after its launch as the pace car for the 1964 Indianapolis 500. That same year the Mustang achieved the first of many notable competition successes with the British pairings of Peter Procter / Andrew Cower and Peter Harper / David Pollard taking first and second in class, respectively in the 1964 Tour de France.
A wonderfully solid and powerful racing platform these striking early Mustangs very much carry on this racing pedigree in historic racing today. The Mustang offered here carries VIN 6T07C117071 and was originally imported from the USA to Aviano USAF base in Pordenone, Italy by a member of the military. Eventually the Mustang was scrapped in Italy, and then bought in the early ‘90s by former Italian racing driver and car collector Giovanni Anzeloni. He restored and prepared the Mustang to compete in the FIA European Championship for Historic Touring Cars up to 1965. Painted in the distinctive livery of dark blue with red roof and red stripe, the Mustang raced with Anzeloni under the name of ‘Team Replay’, a large racing team of that period. The scrutineering stickers from that period still remain in the car to this day, including those from the Nurburgring Old-timer GP, Monza Coppa Inter Europa and Imola Trofeo Ascari. In 2003, the Mustang was bought by Enrico Spaggiari, very good Italian driver, who decided to rebuild it completely. The car was stripped down and re-assembled with new body panels, new suspension components, a new engine and gearbox and so on. Particular attention was paid to ensuring that the Mustang was prepared to be FIA Appendix K compliant. Once rebuilt, he went on racing in 2005 and 2006 in the FIA European Championship for Historic Touring Cars up to 1965. Since then the Mustang has also competed in the 2007 European Championship TC-’65, the Italian Historic Championship, and the Masters Historic Top Hat series. At the end of 2012, an engine built by internationally renowned Ford shop Cobra Automotive Inc. of CT, USA was installed. The engine is 289ci in size and features the correct crank, rods, pistons, Holley 4 barrel carburettor and steel radiator giving 351hp at 6200 rpm.
He also raced the Mustang at the Imola Italian Historic 30 minute race in 2013, then in 2014 he and the Mustang won the 90 minute Brno round of the Master’s Historic Touring Car Championship. The Mustang was then invited to race in the Shelby Cup at the Goodwood Revival in September 2014 where it finished 9th in the 45 minute race. The FIA correct Ford gearbox was refreshed in 2014 along with the differential, before the Mustang was again raced in the Masters Historic Touring during 2015. Highlights of the 2015 season were a 2nd overall at Monza in the 60 minute race and victory in the 60 minute race at Dijon. During 2015 the front brakes received new discs and pads, and new rear brakes were fitted along with new front and rear wheel bearings. The FIA correct Koni Classic dampers which are fitted on the Mustang were serviced in 2015, and in preparation for the 2016 season, new seat belts have been fitted and the fire extinguisher has been serviced. More recently, the current owner raced with the car during the year 2017 and has been maintained by C2C Racing and GGA close to Paris. The car raced in Spa Classic in HTC, Masters Endurance Racing in Magny Cours, Grand Prix de l’Age d’Or in Dijon, and Dix Mille Tours at Paul Ricard, with many podiums and victories. That is the perfect entrant for Tour Auto, Spa 6H, Goodwood.
