1991 Rover Vitesse 2.7 Auto for restoration For Sale
I’ve owned this car for 15 years and done over 100,000 miles on LPG with it. MOT expired August 2018 at which time it came off the road as I intended to give it some TLC.
Since then however I have become more involved with my motorcycles so this has taken a back seat.
I replaced the plugs last month and span it over to get oil to the top of the engine before replacing them. It started first time and switched over to LPG.
However one of the reasons I took it off the road was that the LPG vaporiser ideally needs a new diaphragm as it no longer delivers enough gas for hard acceleration or towing.
On LPG this will return the equivalent of 40 Mpg. Not bad for an automatic old barge and equals the diesel version of the car but of course diesel is more expensive.
The bodywork needs a respray. There is lacquer peel all over the place, a rust patch on the boot lip and a few on the door edge corners that need attending to. Nothing that a competent body shop or keen DIYer could not sort out though.
Likewise the car needs that TLC I spoke about earlier. Fluids and filters change and flushes of the cooling, engine, gearbox and brakes.
Naturally you’ll want to replace the cambelt and water pump as they were last done in 2014. It also needs a bloody good clean on the inside and ideally a replacement headlining. The exhaust tappets also need resetting as they’ve become a bit noisy, not bad considering I last set them 100,000 miles ago.
However, despite these “bad bits” the car is an incredible base to restore from as the slim line trip computer still works as it should and so does the original remote central locking.
During my ownership I tried to make this a “best of breed” so it has M2b Vitesse anti roll bars front and rear which improve the cornering no end. It also has the later Mk2b black leather Vitesse door card inserts and black leather console top. Cruise control is provided by a system from the Honda Legend Mk1 with set / cancel and speed control on the Honda steering wheel. Tyres are good. Spare is space saver.
For the asking price I’ll throw in some spares I accumulated to aid the restoration. I’ll be sorry to see it go but with my current focus on my motorcycles I can’t see me getting to do this for some time.
