1969 Ford Cortina Mk2 1600E Phase 11 finished in Aubergine with back upholstery
This vehicle is an excellent restored example of Ford’s ever popular and range topping Cortina 1600E
A thorough and comprehensive restoration to original specification was undertaken by the previous owner including a high quality bare metal repaint, at which point the decision was taken to change the body colour from white to the Aubergine you see today. The colour suits the lines perfectly and is arguably the colour for a 1600E. Panel fit remains true, again testament to the quality of the work. The period vinyl roof was obviously replaced at the same time.
The underside of the car is every bit as impressive as the rest of the bodywork. It’s clear that time has been taken and no small amount of money spent to produce a result that will stand scrutiny. Components have been removed and re-finished or replaced and there isn’t a welded patch or a drop of underseal in sight!
The engine bay also presents very well.
The odometer reads 98,000 miles and this is believed correct.
Inside the black seats and door cards are almost entirely free of damage and the wood veneer dashboard and door cappings are genuinely better than new with a rich lustre and shine. The dash top is first rate and there are absolutely no cracks or sun damage whatsoever. The headlining whilst believed to be original is in excellent order and free of marks and the fitted carpets have been replaced and show no areas of wear. The Cortina is fitted with a Moto-lita wood rimmed steering wheel which compliments well and is the only obvious deviation from factory spec.
On the road the Cortina performs very well indeed, with sprightly performance from the 1600cc cross – flow engine and excellent road manners courtesy of the Lotus derived suspension. Gears select with a positive and satisfying action and the brakes stop the vehicle as they should. Once again it’s evident that the work undertaken and subsequent maintenance aren’t lacking.
Work undertaken very recently in preparation for sale includes but isn’t limited to;
• Engine flush and oil change
• Coolant flush and anti-freeze
• 4 x new spark plugs
• New water pump
• NOS fuel filler cap
• 2 x new headlamps
As you would expect the Cortina is HPI clear.
In summary this 1600E is a well sorted and cosseted example which is ready to be pressed into immediate service, or could, without much work and investment be taken up to show standard over the winter
