1989 Jaguar XJ40 Sovereign 3.6

JFE paint code. Artic Blue

AEE trim code. Doeskin.

Requires work/ restoration.

Mileage 170,000.

Runs and drives, but the brakes have low brake pressure.

Service history/ hand books.

Reg number G578 WHX, if you want to look it up.

I bought this as a project about 6 years ago. I have made some progress with it, but with other cars taking a priority, its time to let this one go now.

Bought from an elderly owner who was giving up driving.

Work done.

Ski slope and ash tray changed.

Sun roof inner panel changed.

Over voltage relay resoldered.

All door handles fully working. I replaced two that were broken. All latches lubricated and adjusted, so that all handles now fully working.

Central locking works on 3/4 doors.

Sun roof fully working.

Radio works.

Heating works.

Electric sears working.

All lights work.

Runs and drives.

Bumpers are straight.

A posts, sun roof panel, bulkhead, OSF wing. All great.

Front sill ends and floors all good.

NSF wing had some scabs. I have cleaned those off, but some further repairs required.

16” 20 Spoke wheels fitted. Suits the car well. The tires hold air, so it can be moved around easily, but the tyres would need replacing for the road due to their age.
Paint work- generally smart. But of course not perfect.

Work required.

Both rear sill ends need welding.

The lower rear wheel arches are bubbling.

Rear screen lower covers have small holes. I removed the screen rubber trim to access and cleaned them up, to stabilise the corrosion.

A full service.

Headlining pinned up, as usual for these.

Brakes require bleeding/ replacement accumulator sphere and/ or pressure switches. Currently the brakes are very poor, and only just about stop the car when the pedal is fully pressed. Effectively there is no boost. The booster has a slight fluid leak.

A used hydraulic booster/ accumulator is included with the car.

The ABS fault also shows due to the low pressure. I think that will go away once the brake pressure issue is fixed.

Some corrosion on the bonnet and boot lid. But they still look smart.

2 window motors sticking.

Debt on the drivers door.

There is some decent history with the car. Details to follow.

Although it does need welding/ some bodywork, anyone who knows the early 40s will recognise this as one of the better ones! It’s remarkably solid in a number of typical weak spots. Well above average really, when most of them are long gone. As far as i can tell it hasn't had any welding yet, but obviously it does need some now.

Needless to say the car will need transporting. It cannot he driven on the road.

Ideally i would like to see this car go to another enthusiast you can get it back on the road and enjoy it. I would rather this than it end up as spares.
No warranty, sold as seen, Spares or Repairs.
I have tried to summarise the good and bad points of the car. I could go on all day, but please come and view the car if possible.
I can supply spares/ advice where needed to help.

My location, is near Boston, South Lincolnshire, PE20.
