Sadly, for sale - 1979 MGBGT 1800cc in black
Realistically priced for offers around £1,500 mainly due to new owner will not have the expense of having to replace a lot of the major parts (suspension parts etc as this has already been done), needs a bit of elbow grease & TLC to get it back on the road which current own can no longer give. Genuine 61542 miles
When bought by current owner 10 years ago, extensive work carried and it was used as a summer car (never driven in winter conditions) there is a full weatherproof cover (unfortunately still in bag as mentioned car was regularly used in summer (Sunday driver) prior to taken off the road and SORN. And never got round to using the full car cover as liked to look at it. When used it ran like a classic car should and drove wonderfully, mechanically the work had been completed, just the paintwork needed to complete it, but was never carried out whilst employed.
It was used regularly (generally at the week end) prior to being taken off the road since 2018 when Tax & MOT expired.
Sad to say for just over the past 18 months or so it has been ignored when current owner, due to retiring and buying a caravan, the gem has been neglected and left on the drive since. Was started every couple of months and started 1st time, when battery had gone flat, it was charged and again it started 1st time. Not started for approx last 6-7 months. Not running at time of post (battery charged and engine turning but may be out of fuel?) but will not take much to get it doing so for someone who likes to tinker with a classic car
Some of the work carried out during ownership and includes within last few years or so -
New king pins to both sides and arm bushes, new track rod ends, new complete rear leaf springs both sides, stainless steel exhaust system, new headlight bowls and headlights, front indicators ( was originally rubber bumper model 1979 and replaced with Sebring front & rear valances and chrome front grill) to give the classic MG look, The interior has been stripped of carpets (due to rotten) and interior floor pan was cleaned. Rust treated and given thick coat of paint to protect it. Classic wooden & chrome steering wheel fitted, push button start installed for the classic racing style starter. New pipework & piston cylinder for hydraulic clutch.
Engine had been cleaned and degreased externally and alloy rocker cover fitted, water pump & hoses, alternator also replaced during ownership, electronic ignition fitted with Magnicor leads.
New 15” minilite alloys & tyres have also been added,
It is now Tax & MOT exempt (40 years rule) and form printed off ready to take to post office when taxing to register exemption for road tax & MOT.
