A very solid example of this rare spec model, in nice overall condition.
Featuring the desirable and reliable 4.0 AJ6. Runs and drives great. Very little recent use, hence its up for sale.
Starts on the button, shifts through gears and glides along as it should. A few tasteful upgrades.
Very clean underneath the car. Way better than most XJ40 I have seen.
Wings and arches, are perfect! Just look at the pics! The sills look great.
A post, D posts, rear Deck, sun roof panel, Bonnet, doors, boot lid, sill ends all perfect.
Some of the best bodywork I have seen on any XJ40 under £5,000! I have seen a lot of XJ40!
The only corrosion i have found was on the bulkhead, but it’s been cleaned back and painted to preserve it. Much better than most late 40s!
There’s a past repair (from the past owner) on the OSF inner wheel arch. Its not the prettiest, and a perfectionist may want to do it again at some point.
Work done/ Items tested working.
1x key and 1x key fob.
Remote Fob works, but the pick up range will s a little short.
OSR hub replaced.
NSR door latch repaired
No fault codes on the VCM
OSR brake pad sensor replaced.
Air filter changed
Any missing/ broken trim replaced
New Main dealer number Plates fitted front and rear
Sun roof works
Electric aerial works
All windows working.
Fitted with decent condition 18” Penta alloys (X308 XJR). They make the car look much more modern/ give a different stance.
Recent new red wheel badges.
Heating fans work on all 3 speeds.
Gets up to temperature quickly, and maintains steady temp.
All door ajar switches working.
Renewed Centre dash vent veneer.
J gate screws replaced
J gate Chrome retainer replaced.
Central locking works on all locks-
Boot latch replaced.
The car has had some paint work in the past, so the paint is decent overall.
New Good quality Oil/ Genuine Jaguar filter.
New NGK spark plugs.
New Transmission fluid.
Fitted Air Con belt (it came to me with no belt fitted)
New Front top shock bushes.
Readjusted elbow around inlet
New radiator bushes. Top and bottom
New Condenser bushes bottom.
New Genuine radiator top panel fitted.
Cleaned throttle body, idle valve, coolant temp sensors x2.
Past owner fitted wider tail pipe finishers.
Front fog lamps repaired. They are fully working now. It’s a common failure point for these.
Stripped and greased all brake callipers. The brakes are spot on. Plenty of meat left on the pads.
New Diff output shaft bearings both sides.
Replacement NSR wheel bearings fitted.
Renewed diff oil.
Front wheel bearings checked and repacked with fresh grease.
Electric aerial replaced (another correct OE Jaguar part).
Electric cooling fans tested working.
OE radio recently became was faulty. I have replaced with a good quality modern JVC unit, with Bluetooth/ USB charging/ hands free calling.
3 tyres have been replaced, with branded quality rubber.
The tracking was also checked and found to be correct.
Air Con- I have just fitted a replacement Compressor. As the previous part has some intermittent noise off the pulley.
I will look at getting the system gassed at some point soon.....
Replacement battery just fitted.
Bad points/ work to do.
OSF fog lamp has a cracked lens.
Some small patches of lacquer peel in places.
Small bit of rubber missing from the OSF bumper side.
Drivers seat is LH seat, so it’s a bit awkward to change the back adjustment, but once its set, its no problem anymore.
The Headlining was sagging at the rear only. Its discreetly pinned up on the back area only. The front section is all good.
If the car has not been driven in a while, there will be a puff of smoke on start up, but clears quickly. Its standard for these AJ6 engines, due to the valve stem seals hardening. (look up AJ6 valve seals on the internet if you are not familiar with these engines).
Door mirror switch is intermittent. Ideally requires a new switch pack.
Unfortunately the past owner has misplaced the service history. He promised to send it, but it never arrived. I have the past owner’s details if you wish to try and locate them with him?
I do have some receipts for the work/ materials I have had done. Plus an owner’s handbook.
Please do get in touch with any questions, though I think I should have covered in detailed most relevant points that anyone would want to ask.
The car is available for test drive/ viewing. Please get in touch.
My location, is near Boston, South Lincolnshire, PE20.
