The fixed-roof MGB GT was introduced in October 1965 and featured the ground-breaking “greenhouse” design styled by Pininfarina that arguably launching the whole generation of sporting hatchbacks that followed. Today the GT offers a brilliant combination of sports car looks and practicality for the classic car enthusiast although good examples are (sadly) very hard to find.
The large history file indicates that our BGT was originally registered in Rhodesia on 10th October 1977 by Michael Robertson-Hyde. The car came back to the UK in 1978 when Michael returned home and he retained the car until 1994. He was an extremely fastidious owner who serviced the car regularly and the GT went through an expensive restoration in 1989/90 at a cost in excess of £2,000
The history file confirms that the B has had just five owners and covered a warranted 69,000 miles from new. In 2014 the fourth owner converted the car to chrome bumpers, lowered the car to the correct ride height and fitted a slatted chrome radiator grill – the final result is stunning.
Internally the car is excellent with replacement carpets, seat covers and original headlining & dashboard. The history file contains original Rhodesian registration documents, every MOT and lots of invoices demonstrating caring ownership since day one.
MGB GT’s have risen significantly in value over the last three years – they really are one of the most versatile classic cars on the market. On the road this car is an absolute pleasure to drive and will provide lots of pleasure/memories to the lucky new owners for years to come.
