Hexagon Classics are delighted to offer this low mileage, original FIAT, which has an unrepeatable provenance. The useable rear seats of the 500K, or Giardiniera, model transformed the little FIAT family car. It also benefitted from a generous boot space and a large folding sunshine roof.
The model only accounted for approximately 3% of the total production, so surviving examples are extremely sought-after. The rear-opening coach doors just add to the wonderful appearance of a car which has become an icon of Italian motoring culture.
The Giardiniera or Panoramica, was produced in Desio just outside of Milan. The cars has front quarter lights, winding windows in the doors and sliding windows at the rear as standard. Engine cooling relied on air collected from grilles in the sides of the body, which they mounted as high as possible to reduce dust being drawn into the engine compartment.
Sold by FIAT dealer F.LLi Albini, the car was first registered in Renato, Brescia close to Lake Garda in September 1973. The first owner was Signora Maria Bonera. She kept the car up to 2004, by which time it had still covered under 10,000 miles. The car was then sold to a classic car enthusiast in England, who enjoyed a memorable drive back from Brescia
This car has virtually all its original factory paint and has, being undersealed from new, never required any welding or re-trimming. It is possibly the most original example to found anywhere and has been preserved close to the condition that it left the FIAT factory.
The little Giardiniera is now road tax and MOT exempt, so running costs will be minimal. It provides an interesting alternative to some of the more obvious modern classics. The car will certainly provide enormous pride and pleasure for its next owner.
Available to view now at our London showrooms.
