1959 ROVER P5 3 LITRE AUTO ~ RARE MK1 SURVIVOR ~ SMOKE GREY For Sale
A rare opportunity to purchase the oldest surviving Rover P5 3 litre with automatic column change Borg Warner transmission. Fully documented by the Rover P5 Club & the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust, making this a very rare and unique classic car. 'Reginald' was born in 1959 as a 3000cc Saloon dressed in his original & distinctive Smoke Grey coat and recently re-upholstered burgundy cowhide leather interior.
The previous custodian spent ££££'s in 2018 on re-commissioning work which included a full engine, cooling system, transmission and brake overhaul including the following: New brake pipes, tyres & tubes, wheel cylinders and hoses, brake shoes and pads, water pump, fan-belt, coil, fuel pipe, reconditioned radiator, spring hanger mounts, heater valve, anti-roll bar bushes, voltage regulator, all hoses, carburetor rebuild, master cylinder, all gaskets, SS centre exhaust box, plugs, dizzy cap, condenser & rotor arm, tappet and timing adjustment plus all fluids and oils. The work was expertly carried out by Dave Baskerville Autos in North Devon with an invoice value of over £4,500!!!
Reginald starts first time on the button and is very reliable and a very smooth ride indeed, going through all the gears smoothly and with new braking system stops excellently. The engine ticks over like a finely tuned sewing machine and the straight six engine just purrs!!!
You just 'sink' into the sumptuous leather seats, they are so comfortable.
Total production of the 3 litre MK1 automatic was 768 cars
