For sale a 1970 Triumph TR6P 650cc twin, with matching numbers, which I am listing for my friend who is in the RAF and thus is away often. The bike is in great all round condition as can be seen from the photos. He used the bike up until late last year and now has asked me to help him. The 1970 model Triumphs were the last true Triumphs before the oil in frame models created as a joint venture with BSA and in my (and many others) opinion are the best of all. It is of course single carb and thus the most useable and reliable. This bike can be used daily if you so wish, but as an over 40 year old should be well cared for.

The bike has a very interesting history, and I asked the owner to email me his story, in his own words which appears as he sent it to me, in the next paragraphs in the quotes.

"The Triumph TR6P registration number DRS122H was brought back by me from Iraq desert in 1993.

Initial research highlighted that the Kuwaiti government had purchased single type fleets of bikes in the late 60s and early 70s. The bike was bought by me from a retired army Engineer working in bomb disposal. He had recovered various bikes from the desert. Post some research, his opinion was that the Kuwaitis had bought some Police Triumphs in 69, he believed they changed to Hondas after 1970.
It appears the motorcycles were stored post use, in Kuwait city and after the invasion by the Iraqis, the Iraqis utilised those motorcycles they could make work. When the country was liberated these motorcycles were used to escape the country which is why they ended up in the desert of Iraq. Many were badly damaged and I bought half a motorcycle along with my virtually complete TR6P. The highly damaged bike had been over a landmine.

When the bike was repatriated to the United Kingdom I was able through the Triumph Owners Motorcycle Club to get a dating certificate and supporting evidence for the information I gained while in Iraq."

As I said it is in great all round condition with the marks of ages, it comes with excellent alloy rims, and otherwise is pretty much standard for the year. He has it painted in Spring Gold, the correct colour for a TR6 of 1970 as there is no record of the original colour. It is fitted with stainless mudguards. I have a photo, taken in a shelter in Iraq in 1993 that shows the Kuwait TR6Ps were not encumbered with the UK police type equipment. It is fitted with Boyer electronic ignition and a power box regulator for increased reliability. This is the chance to own a great bike with a very unique history.

The only negative points are a mark in the seat, a bit like a cigarette burn, which I have tried to show, and the chrome on the rear shocks and kickstart is a bit thin.

If prospective buyers would like to confirm I am selling for the owner, Gavin, I can put you in touch, but as mentioned he is often away. If you have any questions on the bike itself, please contact me through car and classic. Viewings welcome, please remember this is not a concourse bike, but a really good condition useable bike, if it were concourse I would be asking about 10K. Now Priced to Sell.

I have reduced the price to sell. No Offers
