BIKES HISTORY
I bought this Goldie from Pembrokeshire Classics in 2012. I was told that the previous owner had it restored after being brought back from Malaysia, and had an age related reg. number. He kept it for ten years as part of a collection which he was now thinning out. I checked the details with the GSOC (which I am a member) machine register, and was told that BSA despatched it to ST. Andrews Motors in Blyth, Northumberland on the 5th June 1956 as a DB32 in clubmans trim. The engine a DBD34 was first fitted to Goldie that was despatched to Blays, Twickenham, on 3 October 1958.
I was able to get the original reg. mark back. With the help of THE OLD BIKE MART, I found that the records still existed in Northumberland, and got a rubber stamped copy of the relevant record which enabled me to get a new V5 document. Interestingly, the records showed that the last known owner was Mr J. H. Goodall of RAF Benson. John was a very successful road racer, who tragically lost his life while taking part in the 2008 Manx GP. Now I had a Gold Star that was owned by a road racer. Intrigued, I put a request for information in the CLASSIC MOTORCYCLE. A few issues later, a reply was printed from someone who had been in the RAF with John, and remembers him buying a Gold Star in 1967. Later that year John was posted to Malaysia, and not only took the Goldie with him, but raced it as well. A photo of John racing his Goldie in Malaysia was also printed in the article. Yes, that’s where I was told it had been brought back from!!!
