1973 Jaguar E-Type Series 3 V12 OTS RHD For Sale

After leaving the production line in 1973, sold to its first registered owner, Mr Harris, Enfield via London’s Henleys LTD, the Series 3 lived the London life for some 8 years being regularly serviced and having its original ‘Jaguar Passport To Service’ frequently stamped, starting with the P. D. I (Pre-delivery Inspection) and finishing with the last service stamp in 1981 with the car having covered 27, 625 miles since new.

Continuing its life in London, the E-type changed hands to a Mr Falcon of Hackney in what is believed to be the early 1980’s. To ensure this 70’s classic was operating as Jaguar had intended, Falcon commissioned general upkeep in 1981, resulting in a full service of the V12 5. 3-litre engine components and a retune.

Entering into its third keeper, the roadster was purchased by a Mr Wheat in 1984 and was given a healthy dose of TLC, treated to a mixture of mechanical, bodywork and trim being undertaken across the upcoming 4 years. Understanding the importance of a detailed history file, Mr Wheat kept a large collection of invoices recording all completed work, which includes addressing the rear wheel arch damage with a respray, fitting a new black mohair hood and upgrading the running with SPAX adjustable shock absorbers and stainless-steel exhaust system.

In September 1988, Mr Wheat felt it was time to sell his beloved Big Cat, via a local classic automobile specialist resulting in the exchange of this stunning roadster to a Mr Devere of West Wimbledon, who continued the tradition of building a meticulous history folder. The E-type changed hands 4 years later to a Mr Paris of Paris & Co, Warwick, where the Series 3 would be treated to extensive mechanical and bodywork.

Once in Mr Paris’ ownership, the E-type became a familiar face to the same specialists that sold the car on behalf of Mr Wheat 10 years prior. In mid-1996, the car entered its first exterior restoration fitted with countless new body panels, including new floors and sills and a respray of the underside of the bonnet, door shuts and boot. During this time, Mr Paris’ also took the opportunity to refresh the interior, fitting new carpets and carpet underlay, reviving the luxurious feel of this classic.

It was late in 2003 when the E-type was sold via ‘The E-Type Centre’, Staffordshire, and entered the roadsters current ownership. For the last 15 years, the roadster has been loved and cherished as the car has grown into more and more of an iconic British classic. After years of enjoyment, it was decided to treat the Series 3 to another refresh, taking the car to a North Yorkshire classic car restoration firm.

The Yorkshire team undertook a comprehensive inspection early in 2018, running the E-type through a detailed 150-point checklist, looking at such areas as Body Exterior, Engine Components, Electric/ Controls, Interior and Fuel System to name a few. Having completed the inspection, the Series 3 was found to be in good condition and running order with only minor issues, a work invoice was issued and a completion date was set for December 2018. The restoration specialists set out to complete the following:

- Full exterior respray
- Full underbody underseal
- Re-chroming of bumpers
- Uprated chrome spiral wheels

Since completing its restoration in December 2018 and as a result of constant careful ownership, the Series 3 is accompanied by a detailed history file covering years of completed invoices, ordered parts and a long recorded M. O. T history starting as early as 1981. You will also find in the folder several original Jaguar drivers club, E-type maintenance and sales and service handbooks.

Presented today in fabulous condition boasting an exception Carmen red finish with a complementing clean black interior and black mohair hood. As a result of a recent full respray, the paintwork is in excellent condition with no areas of corrosion, scratches or dimples. The interior is found in mostly original condition displaying period correct seats, carpets and door trim, all in clean and good condition, with the added extra of a retrofit of a Radiomobile radio.

Featuring a tidy engine bay with its original V12 5. 3 litre, the engine that helped the E-type break into the grand tourer market. After years of consistent maintenance, the Series 3 offers a smooth but thrilling drive, surrounding the driver with an amazing V12 soundtrack and pulling this roadster down the road via an original and precise 4-speed gearbox.
