THIS 1968 Rover P5B 3.5 auto was built in April, 1968 and despatched to a Rover dealership in Ireland later the same month. There is a British Motor Heritage Certificate on record, stating that it was the first ever P5B to be exported to Ireland and also just the fourth RHD export model to come off the production line. It has been in Ireland ever since - well that was until recently when I acquired it.

From what I have been able to read about her, she has seen little, if any use since 1999 and so although I drove her 12 miles or so today, she will need going through. Firstly, let me point out that she is amazingly solid and strong in all the right places. Her four jacking points look rock solid, her sills are excellent and indeed her entire underside looks to be in super order and not welded or patched up. The rear leaf springs are wrapped in a kind of black oil cloth for protection. Her panel work is just as sound and so it is only the paint work that lets her down a little. She was not be a difficult vehicle to re-spray despite her obvious size. Interior-wise, and once more, she is totally original displaying excellent cream leather. The smell is simply ridiculously potent the second you open a door. She drove very nicely at around 50 mph today and behaved well in D2 moving through her gears. She operates in Low also but seemed reticent to set off in D1. I don't know why. Her V8 rumble is glorious to the ear even though there is evidence of a slight blow from the exhaust where the pipe meets the first rear silencer. She starts on the first turn of the key. Sometimes the driver's door opens and shuts as it should; other times it seems to self lock and so I do not lock the quarter light window in case I need to reach inside for the interior lever. Brakes are operating but are not sharp. I am pointing these quirks out so that the next owner knows exactly what I have here. There is no pretence that she is a show car, nor a five-figure P5B V8. She does however have the potential to be a top car again mainly due to her incredible solidity (Ireland is a much better bet for the climate and non-salted roads than the UK) and her original interior. I will give the new owner a NOVA (notification of vehicle arrival) reference number and with that and the relevant paper work from DVLA, you can have a UK registration number allocated.

She is not a new car, nor is she a three-year-old used car. She is a piece of antique motoring history and, as such will have quirks and maybe even the odd fault. Anyway, she is what she is. These old gems - in this case 51-years-old are sold as seen. Should you buy without viewing, then she is sold on the basis of the advertisement you have read the photos, or extra photos, you have seen as well with the assistance of any answers to questions you have received from me. Treat these classics with the respect they deserve and make sure they have love, time and effort lavished on them. Even the very best need permanent on going care. Practically all will have undergone a degree of restoration work or improvement at some stage. If it's a three-year-old car dating from the 1960s that you are after, then you are out of luck. Short of acquiring a Tardis that is.

Anyway, thanks for reading. I am here to answer any questions you may have and, remember, that I also provide a delivery service. Martin the details below)
