The roadster was the first of the MGB range to be produced. The body was a pure two seater; a small rear seat was a rare option at one point. By making better use of space the MGB was able to offer more passenger and luggage accommodation than the earlier MGA. In late 1967, sufficient changes were introduced for the factory to define a Mark II model for the 1968 model year. Changes included synchromesh on all four gears with revised ratios, a new rear axle, and an alternator in place of the dynamo with a change to a negative earth system. The MGB was one of the first cars to feature controlled crumple zones designed to protect the driver and passenger in a 30 mph impact with an immovable barrier (200 ton). Specially tuned MGBs (including some with aluminum panels) were successful in international road competition events, scoring a Grand Touring category victory in the 1965 Monte Carlo Rally. Circuit racing wins included the Guards 1000 miles race at Brands Hatch in 1965 and the 84 hour Marathon de la Route at the Nurburgring in 1966. MGBs also won the GT Category in the 1966 Targa Florio, the 1966 Spa 1000 and the 1967 Spa 1000.
This MGB roadster is an exceptional chrome bumper example presented in Mallard Green and Autumn Leaf interior colors. Mallard was only available on the 1972 & 1973 model years and is more the a bit rare. It has had some very dedicated ownership over the years who have done a superior job of keeping up with maintenance, Both mechanical and cosmetic aspects are in top condition. This is one of the tightest, smoothest driving MGB roadsters we have driven in a while. The motor is quiet, has excellent oil pressure and pulls strongly through all four gears. It still retains the original air pump and it
functions as intended. The 4 speed shifts easily in and out of gears at any speed with no hesitation or strange noises. The paint finish is truly blemish free, show quality. All interior components have been replaced proper style and color seat covers and panels. The tasteful wood dash inserts gives it an upgraded period appearance. Dash instrumentation has been refurbished to like new condition and are in proper working condition. The car has original jack bag with jack and lug wrench. There also is an owners manual and paper records dating over the past 32 years back to 1987. This MGB is a great car to enjoy drives in the country or take to local car shows.
