1980 VAUXHALL CAVALIER MARK 1 1.3. MAYBE ONLY 1 LEFT. SUPERB For Sale

* ONE OF JUST TWO 1300 MODELS LEFT ACCORDING TO DVLA. *25K MILES FROM NEW. *TAX AND MOT EXEMPT ANY TIME NOW *NEVER WELDED. *CURRENT MOT *STUNNING, INSIDE AND OUT. * DON'T KNOW WHERE THE OTHER SURVIVOR IS, NOR WHAT STATE IT MAY BE IN. *COULD BE ONLY 1.3 MARK 1 ON THE ROAD! THEY say it was the car that virtually saved Vauxhall. Launched in 1975 while the latest example of the ailing Victor model was just about still managing to exit the occasional car showroom here and there, the Cavalier breezed in like a breath of fresh air and, despite all the Trade Union problems of the seventies, managed to keep Vauxhall's Luton plant alive and very much kicking. The 1300 was the entry model. Taking the engine from the Viva HC and the Chevette, this was a new looking mid-market size car that which Vauxhall hoped would challenge Ford's all conquering Cortina model. And, to a large extent it did just that. It ran until 1981 and very few examples have survived. The majority of the survivors tend to be the 1600s and, according to the DVLA "How many left" site, just two 1.3s are out there. And here is one of them. With a mere 25,000 miles on the clock and known to have been dry stored for more than 20 years, I would have to say that I am as confident as I possibly can be that this low mileage is correct. She has never been welded. That's right. Nothing at all. She feels and handles like a nearly new car and is a delight on the road. All evidence - ie interior, firmness of virtually perfect seats, steering wheel and even pedal rubbers - points to this being an incredible example of a mega-rare, low mileage example. This is truly a stunning example. She sailed through an MoT recently with no advisories and, as of April 2020 when she will be 40-years-old, she will no longer need testing or taxing. In effect, should the new owner choose, then she will never need to be tested again! Since her MoT in September, she had covered just four miles when I acquired her. I have been out in her this morning on a lovely dry and sunny day, and put another 20 or so on the clock. Smiling all the way. As I accelerated between 40 and 50 mph for example, if someone had told me I was driving a 1600cc car then I would have believed them! It was a good friend of mine and a classic Vauxhall fanatic who unearthed this gem and he fitted the following. Four brand new tyres, rear brakes, clutch, and exhaust front pipe. The clutch was replaced while renewing a rusted core plug behind the flywheel. The original was only half worn but was replaced so as not to have to do the job again. The engine, by the way, is the original. And, speaking of original, so are the carpets. Body-wise, she is amazing and I would have thought that she was a car to be shown. She would also be more than capable of holding her own in a current day GM showroom! There is a tax disc in the glove box which expired in November 1997. She is not a new car, nor is she a three-year-old used car. She is a piece of antique motoring history and, as such will have quirks and maybe even the odd fault. Anyway, she is what she is. These old gems - in this case almost 40-years-old are sold as seen. Should you buy without viewing, then she is sold on the basis of the advertisement you have read the photos, or extra photos, you have seen as well with the assistance of any answers to questions you have received from me. Treat these classics with the respect they deserve and make sure they have love, time and effort lavished on them. Even the very best need permanent on going care. Practically all will have undergone a degree of restoration work or improvement at some stage. If it's a three-year-old car dating from the 1960s that you are after, then you are out of luck.
