In 1975, Jaguar launched the XJ-S as the successor to the iconic ‘E-type’. The model would evolve profoundly over the years, the first generation keeping its flag flying until 1981.
The XJ-S boasted of a newly developed V12 engine with a capacity of 5.3 litre, capable of 285 hp. Both manual and automatic gearboxes were available. However, as of 1977, the automatic gearbox became standard.

Due to the oil crisis in 1973, the newcomer with its large V12 was no immediate success. In addition, the public became fond of the sensual lines of the ‘E-type’ and received the design of the XJ-S rather critically.
However, the aerodynamics were considerably better and the roadholding proved to be an enormous improvement.
To boost sales, some modifications were introduced in 1981.
The Mark II was equipped with a new engine which reached a top speed of 250 km/h. It was crowned the fastest ‘automatic’ in the world. A convertible version was also available, equipped with a 6-cylinder engine in line with a 3.6 litre capacity. Later the V12 rolled off the production line.

The model was redesigned one last time in 1991. Not only was the name changed to XJS, but the styling and technology were also completely renewed.

The last production of the XJS began in 1996 and was celebrated with the ‘Celebration Special Edition’. It was no incident, as Jaguar was celebrating its 60th birthday.
This last (and best) XJS was supplied with the most coveted AJ16 type engine. The capacity of the 4 litre 6-cylinder engine was boosted to an exceptional 240 hp. The limited edition version can be recognised by its diamond-cut light-alloy rims, seats with Jaguar stitching, wooden steering wheel and gear-shift lever... In addition, it was richly equipped with options and electric seats and mirrors, air-conditioning, a heated rear window ... standard.

After a 21-year model run, production was to cease in April 1996.

Collection by Vermant is proud to offer you this 1996 Jaguar XJS ‘Celebration’. It is a limited edition from the last year of production. The car was manufactured on 15 January 1996, due for delivery to the first owner by ‘Cutter Motors’ in San Clemente, California, on 8 July. We offer a car with ‘Topaz Metallic’ paint, a cream leather interior and brown soft top in the original (and current) composition.
The driving mechanism is supplied by the coveted AJ16 engine which delivers 240 hp. An automatic gearbox takes care of the transmission. The standard model was already well-equipped, but the picture would be incomplete without mentioning the limited-slip differential and alloy spare wheel.

Meanwhile, this stylish convertible has done 62,300 miles and the car is still in mint condition.

The car comes with a ‘Jaguar Heritage Trust’ document and a certificate of conformity.

It will enjoy a service in our own workshop before the sale.
