Once upon a time the car was Heritage Burgundy with Beige interior. Now it's delightfully weathered and has the shabby chic look.
Running a 390ci (6.4 litre) V8 engine with a Cruise-o-matic automatic gearbox, this glorious machine was imported by Mark Dixon, the Classic car scribe, from Alabama in 2015 where it had languished in a shed. One of our local enthusiasts acquired the car in 2017 and has spent over £15,000 on mechanical re-commissioning and making it safe and roadworthy.
Work on engine, which was running poorly, included a new camshaft, bearings and followers, new main bearings and big end bearings, oil seals front and rear and a new oil pump. The carburettor was removed and overhauled and the air hoses replaced and the petrol tank was stripped and cleaned and new fuel hoses fitted.
Another invoice shows a brake overhaul, exhaust work, re-fitting brightwork, seats and trim, wheel refurbishment and attention to numerous bits and bobs that didn't quite work. The electrics were checked and the rear lights converted to LED for safety.
The paintwork was sealed to protect its wonderful appearance.
Power steering is fitted and the split tailgate with a wind down rear window all works
