Gt40p/1042 (1001) is a historic 1966 mk 1 gt40, having been reincarnated over a 10 years period by marque specialists, using all original/nos parts; Including 90% replacement of the period-original monocoque, original race-tuned 289 cubic inch v8, period zf-0 transaxle and original bodywork from the essex wire (no. 60) gt40 entry for the 1966 24 hours of le mans. originally shipped 3/30/65, there exist two build sheets for the car, as it was actually "completed" twice. For its first incarnation, it was built as a lookalike for shelby american team cars, being painted "dark blue, guardsman" (according to the car's build sheet) with white stripes. The build sheet indicates "dummy" for engine and transmission and gearbox and "none" for clutch”. it was apparently shipped as a non-running display car. Shipped to ford dearborn, and was displayed at the '65 new york auto show and world's fair exhibition. after th. Fair and show, it was returned to f.a.v. And rebuilt as a race car, with a 6/12/66 delivery date. It had a fuel cross over system, hydraulic reservoir inspection panel, l.h. Fuel filler blanked off, rear wheel arches modified for larger wheels.” cirrus white was the body color, and the essex wire red/black striping (a wide black-bordered red center stripe and corresponding narrower sill stripes) was as per gt40 p/1038. it was shipped out with the then-new len bailey-designed "lemans" nose). it was loaned to the essex wire team (this was also noted on the build sheet, and that the “customer" is listed as f.a.v., indicates that the car was still under the ownership of f.a.v.) for lemans: 6/18-19/66 lemans (#60 - jackie ickx/jochen neerpasch - dnf). large black triangular recognition panels were painted atop th. (cirencester, eng), steve stevenson (eng) in '71, tony mitchell (eng) in '72 and john lees (sheffield, eng) in '73. during the mid-70s the bodywork parted company with the rest of the car and was put into storage, where the great gt40 historian, ronnie spain, was able to authenticate its provenance; After which, it was purchased through shedevil racing of east sussex, to be used in the reincarnation of p/1042(1001). during its’ restoration, the archaeology revealed its’ 1960s paint schemes, and battle damage. The car was repainted in its’ sid taylor racing livery of 1967 and a dash-mounted plaque, signed by “sid taylor” contributes towards its’ historical provenance. there is an enormous history file, with numerous period photographs, race programmes, magazine articles and drivers’ autographs; All of which, has been examined and verified by ronnie spain. He also details how the gt40 carries its’ matching engine, period gearbox, parachute-material seats, irvin gq harnesses, magnesium uprights, girling cr/br calipers, original radiator/oil cooler, fispa fuel regulator and stewart warner pumps etc. Indeed, this gt40 is 100% period-correct, as when it would have left th. F.a.v. Factory in slough, and benefits from real period race history.
