The MG F was launched in 1995. It was powered by a 1.8 litre K-Series 16 valve engine, with 118 hp, while the more powerful VVC engine had 143 hp. Steve Harper produced the initial design concept in January 1991, before Rover's in house design team refined the concept under the leadership of Gerry McGovern. An interesting feature of the F was its Hydragas suspension, a system employing interconnected fluid and gas displacers which provided a surprisingly compliant ride but which could be tuned to provide excellent handling characteristics. The MG F quickly shot to the top of the affordable sports car charts in Britain, and remained there until the introduction of the MG TF in 2002.
The vendor acquired the vehicle on the 7 June 2010 after extensive viewings of other vehicles. Since that date the car has been serviced and MOTd yearly at MG Rover’s Howards Nissan Group, Weston-super-Mare. MOTs are included. Additional service works, oil changes and similar were carried out at AutoCare, Weston-super-Mare (classic car specialists).
A new exact engine replacement was fitted by AutoCare engine reference S111407 at a mileage of 49,229 on 31 May 2013. Cosmetic paintwork to the yellow door trims and windscreen surround was also carried out in 2013. The latest mileage on the most recent MoT on 18 July 2019 was a Pass with a full vehicle health check at a mileage of 51,424.
The original spare wheel can be seen in the front bonnet compartment. A replacement MG Rover windscreen was fitted in October 2011. Cam belts etc were re-newed at change of engine to include cooler hoses and stainless steel cooling pipes under the car. The stronger MG TF wheels in black were also fitted at this point. The original wheels have been refurbished and dry stored and will be available to the future purchaser at a negotiated cost, as would the original hard top in black, and the original steering wheel in yellow and black. The car is finished in Mellow Yellow, with a Black and Grey interior, and is in very good condition. The car has only covered 52,000 miles, and has had 4 previous keepers. The Trophy 160 was only produced for a very short time, and this sensibly Reserved car represents excellent value, and investment potential.
