1970 Austin 1800S with period rally modifications For Sale
The car was purchased by the currently (Only 4th registered) owner with a view to use it in classic car rallys in Europe.
After purchasing the car, it soon became apparent that is needed a lot more body work than first thought- he wanted a vehicle that was not only going to look and drive the part but be reliable too so the decision was taken to take the car off the road and go through everything.
Body wise the inner and outer sills on both sides, both inner wings and the majority of the cars floor were all renewed. While the work was being done the engine was removed and rebuilt, bores reground, new pistons and an uprated cam shaft were installed. The gearbox was also rebuilt along with the carbs. Suspension wise, larger bump stops were fitted along with addition front shock absorbers and a new rear antiroll bar. An electronic power steering unit was also added, along with rev counter and cobra bucket seats inside the car. The car was then reassembled and painted in it’s original colour of Antelope. To finish the rally look a set of minilites were bolted on and the project was finished. The full cost of all this work exceeded £25, 000 with receipts to show, all carried out at Southern Triumph.
Since the car returned to the road it has covered around 3000 miles a year on European tours, hill climbs and even use a daily vehicle. We’re told it has been tonally reliable in this time, which is a testament to the attention to detail that went into building the car in the first place. It is ready to continue its adventures across the continent if required, but could easily be used as an everyday driver.
The car comes with an MOT (Even though it’s not required) and a FIVA identification card. Also included in the sale is the original front seats and steel wheels.
The cars history file is inches thick with all the receipts from the modifications carried out above, along with a great deal of older invoices and MOT’s- it really has got everything.
Without doubt one of the finest Austin 1800S on the market place today, if you’d like to own this incredible car please give us a call.

One of the rarer bodies found on an Austin 7, the Boat Tail has a distinctive semi-fabric style as part of its shapely rear. It was seen as a low-cost alternative for individuals seeking a little elegance and style while remaining usable and practical. This 1931 example really is as good as it looks. The car has won ...
