1991 Bwm 850i, sterling silver, lhd, auto, japan import For Sale
This car was produced in October 1991. It was imported from Japan to the UK in 2006 and put in storage for two years (original Japanese service record as well as import papers are present). I acquired it in 2008, and it has been my daily transport ever since. It has been maintained and serviced regularly, including necessary replacements of suspension and steering parts, petrol pumps, exhaust, etc. Its current MOT expires on November 29th 2020. It is left-hand drive and fitted with five-spoke wheels, staggered with 235 Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres front and 265 Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres rear. It runs fine but a car this old and complex is of course always an ongoing project, so I would not recommend somebody buy it who has no relevant expertise, or can afford to buy it in. I have replaced a number of electronic components, including many of the electrolytic capacitors in the on-board computer systems as their expected lifetime has run out. Hand-drawn circuit diagrams and diagnostic information covering some of these systems can be included in a deal (not available through BMW), as can an original BMW dealer-level diagnostic computer with accessories (not included in the asking price). The car has never been restored. As far as I can tell the suspension was lowered in Japan (I have owned a number of 850s and this has the best handling among them), and it is quite fast. Because of its ride height (and the atrocious UK road quality - 3rd world in case you don't know the country) the lowest of the front splitters is not installed, but a brand new one is supplied with the car, as well as paint of the right colour. The paint on the vehicle is weather-worn but there is little if any corrosion - various racing decals decorate it (as it was delivered from Japan). The headliner is slightly de-laminated towards the rear as can be expected for the age. The seats are good and moving. Radio/cd changer/sound system work (Japanese radios do not operate on the European frequencies, so I replaced the originally installed Sony model with an original European 8-series BMW radio (produced by Blaupunkt). It comes complete with the original 6-cd changer in the boot). A small cover holding the button for the sunroof is broken (the parts are there so it can be repaired) and the screw locking the tool kit in the trunk is broken (currently looking for a replacement). I sell the car because after servicing and restoring V12 BMWs for over 20 years I retired some ten years ago, and I no longer have the energy to maintain it. Thus, it needs a new keeper with the money, energy and interest to keep this fantastic vehicle running. It was the BMW flagship model when the 8-series was introduced and has all of the ultimate equipment that BMW had developed at that time. It is one of the best cars ever produced and certainly the best BMW ever, a true GT. The vehicle can of course be shipped world wide but must be inspected and paid for in the UK (cash or gold). It is sold as inspected, without warranty of any kind except title.
