Meticulous recreation in the eighties from MK VI Saloon to an Open Tourer with a superb, Derby-style sporty, coachbuilt all-metal body using genuine Derby bonnet and front wings plus many other vintage components. Chassis modified by Alan Padgett Motor Engineers builder of over 30 special-bodied Bentleys. The normal mechanical specification was retained but the engine and gearbox were moved back by some 10 inches and a specially made cast aluminium bulkhead fabricated. The very swish rear wings were designed in the school of the Lagonda Rapier by ‘Wings & Things‘ bodybuilders from Newtown St, Boswells. The engine and gearbox have been fully rebuilt and this car can cruise at 75 mph on the motorway with ease, according to the last owner (and builder) of 38 years, so it is a highly usable example, ideal for vintage rallies and overseas touring. The owner drove it here from Scotland to Lancashire without a qualm.

High quality double duck hood and full length tonneau. Seats upholstered in soft red leather and carpets with bound edges. Not many Mk VI Specials have 4 proper seats.

This actual car is featured in Ray Robert’s Book of Bentley Specials (p 322, 323 Vol. 1) copy entries included in history file.

V5 Logbook, showing correct body type, so car is eligible for worldwide export.

The special-body concept has been an important part of the classic Bentley movement for many years but really came to fruition from the mid-1960s onwards, spurred on by a ready supply of strong, well-engineered chassis clothed in poor-condition bodywork due to the low quality post-war steel used in their bodywork construction.

Car is available to view at Lytham St Annes in Lancashire by appointment. Call John on number below. Transport arranged at £1 pr/ mile (one way only charged)
