1955 WOLSELEY 4/44 - SO SOUND, GREAT ENGINE & DRIVER! SOLD

Ah, the Wolseley 4/ 44. My first ever classic car a good few decades ago around the time that we slowly learning to change from "old bangers" to classics. I have always loved the shape and style from childhood and, to this day, I still believe that it stands up as something of an iconic design from the pen of the world renowned Gerald Palmer. Dating back to the days of grace and luxury, the 4/ 44 was aimed at the middle classes and such additions as leather seats and lashings of woodwork was supposed to help with the marketing.

This old girl came to me as very much a classic in use. By that I mean on the road and ready to go at the pull of the starter button. Actually, that should be push in this case. Anyway, I have just put her through her paces today and she performed admirably with excellent oil pressure and a willingness to climb hills, pull away from junctions in 3rd and show amazing torque in top. She is remarkably solid, including the underside and sills. As I say, she is very much a car in use and so does show signs of scratches, scrapes and some areas of paint imperfections. Her leather has probably been allowed to dry out for too long and consequently there are a few splits in the seat bases where cracks will have appeared in the first place. Her woodwork, on the other hand, is in great nick. I am not asking a fortune for her and, if you want a ready usable 4/ 44 which will still turn heads when out cruising and you are not overly fussy about cosmetics, then this is the car for you. If you want the same model but looking brand new and therefore fresh from the paint oven, then go and look elsewhere and pay more than double!

Hang on a sec. Actually I think I am being a touch unkind to this smashing old girl. She is one of the most solid 4/ 44s I have owned and she is also one of the best drivers. A day spent compounding her or treating her to a power polisher would make a decent difference. Don't make the mistake of thinking that this is not a proud and presentable old girl, because she is. In my considered opinion.

Should you opt to purchase a classic car from me - classic meaning that it will be the equivalent of a motoring antique - then you are accepting that the vehicle will have had faults in the past and that, inevitably, there will be more to deal with in the future. Almost certainly and unless stated otherwise, the vehicle will have undergone some degree of restoration work and, again, it is more than likely it will need more at some stage during its life. I am a one-man enthusiast who enjoys unearthing these old girls and finding new homes for them. Viewing is highly recommended and then you can form your opinion of an aged vehicle just as I will have already formed mine. Modern-day life practically dictates that the majority of classic vehicles - and it is certainly the case with mine - are sold via internet advertising and with the added bonus of digital photographs. Extra and specific photographs will also be available on request. Should you choose to buy without viewing in person then please don't tell me a month later that the horn doesn't work, the full beam is faulty or that you have found some ancient repair of which I knew nothing. My terms therefore are that by buying from me you are accepting that, almost inevitably, classic vehicles will require further remedial work at some stage.

I can also arrange delivery and so please contact me for a quote. Thanks, Martin the details below).
