This exceptional B10 Alpina on offer here is described as completely original, matching numbers, all original panels, rust free and never welded. The Alpina B10 #16 was delivered new to Japan on January 30th of 1986 (original Alpina order sheet available in the history file) and in 2016 it was imported to England where a customer of Ivo Christov bought it in February 2017. Furthermore it is important to note that whereas some 500 E28 Alpina B9’s were made, only 77 examples of the more powerful Alpina B10 were produced. The B9 was based upon the 528i, whereas the B10 is derived from the 535i. The B10 has 261bhp instead of 245bhp and distinguishes itself with a 300 km/h speedo and the digital Alpina instrument cluster fitted in one of the interior air vents. Furthermore in contrast to the standaard BMW automatic in the B9 the 4 speed example in the Alpina B10 was actually tuned by Alpina and fitted with a sports mode. This gear box gives the car a liveliness that you wouldn’t expect from an automatic.
Alpina founder Burkhard Bovensiepen has an outspoken preference for automatic transmissions and this car is a testament to that. For this purpose Alpina engines are especially tuned with an emphasis on torque.
The engine and gearbox of this Alpina were tested by Ivo Christov (from - details above) and found to be in great condition (compression test readings available in the file). Getting the car technically up to date only required fitting and overhauling the complete brake system (discs, pads and a new master brake cylinder), new Bilstein shocks, a new alternator, new viscous coupling and new Continental Sport Contact tyres.
Further attention was paid to the aesthetics of this wonderful car in the last two years, with over €15,000 Euros being spent in total. The Alpina was treated to a glass out repaint in Alpine White and due to the excellent preservation of previous owners, all the panels are original except for the front spoiler which needed to be replaced because of scraping. The replacement is an original Alpina part of course. This is undeniably one of the finest B10’s we have had the pleasure to offer to the market and we think that this car will not only pass the finest scrutiny but is well worth a close inspection.
