Supplied new by John Grose in Ipswich for £22,402.52 to the original owner, Mr Wildridge who specified the car to be registered with a ‘COS’ suffix private number plate which remains with the car.
This desirable Big Turbo model was built in September 1992 at the Rheine Assembly Plant in Germany and registered new on the 1st January 1993. The original owner absolutely cossetted this example, and the car remained with him until 2017. In 2017 the car was purchased by the only other owner, and it has remained within the second owners collection until now. V5 correctly states just one previous owner.
The service history which accompanies this simply stunning Escort Cosworth is unrepeatable. John Grose annually maintained this car for the original owner from new with an impressive 24 service entries catalogued over four service books.
Every invoice is accompanied by each Ford Visual Health Check.
Since the second owner purchased the vehicle, it has had a further 3 services completed by Ford, with the latest including a cambelt change.
A Classic Companions ‘This is Your Life’ presentation box neatly documents any expenditure including the 16 fuel station visits using only Shell Super Unleaded with accompanying receipts. A Ford fanatic will be amazed with all aspects of this example and will no doubt want to claim it to be the very best in the world.

Body & Paintwork:
We have had the car fully detailed, including a machine polish and the car looks better than new.
A beautiful gloss finish is present on the Mallard Green paintwork with a fantastic reflection, and none of the usual swirls and cleaning marks, or indeed storage marks that are so common on such vehicles.
All paintwork has been measured using a paint thickness device, and we can confirm the car is entirely in original paintwork.
All exterior trim is in excellent order including the lights, badges and rubbers.
Original glass is still in place and all correct Ford window stickers remain intact including the Ford Security System sticker.
All wheels are in perfect condition and are the original Ford RS 8 X 16” five-spoke alloy wheels which are still sporting the original, no longer available 225/45 ZR16 Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico tyres
Interior & Trim:
As you would fully expect, the interior of this early Escort RS Cosworth is as new and exactly as Ford intended.
The Recaro seats finished in the Polaris Grey Hex cloth, are the best we have seen, with condition such as this only seen on incredibly low mileage examples never exposed to ultraviolet light.
The desirable early none airbag leather covered steering wheel with three horn buttons remains fitted. Removable Ford RS Owners Club stickers are affixed to front screen with this being the 94th car registered.
Being one of the first 2500 cars the pristine boot area still has the water injection kit never plumbed in and unused to comply with homologation. Most were removed by the Ford dealer to avoid customer confusion but the original owner of this car knew the significance and asked the dealer not to remove it.
Everything works just as it should do, and it is a truly fantastically Retro place to be.
As can be seen from the pictures, the engine bay presents exactly as you would expect from a car whith such low mileage and such love lavished over the years – as good as you will get from as unrestored original example.
The powerful and well proven Cosworth 2.0 litre 16v turbocharged YBT engine features the larger Garrett T3/T04B turbocharger with a two-stage water/air and air/air intercooler together with an electronically regulated over-boost facility.
Being an early car it is also fitted with the desirable Weber-Marelli fuelling and ignition system.
The blue painted cam cover denotes a number of significant changes over the older YBG unit of the Sierra RS Cosworth and power is quoted at 225bhp with 0-60 in 5.9 seconds and a top speed of 140mph. Religious annual servicing by Ford main dealer leaves no doubt to the mechanical well being of this cherished car, and with the most recent service including a cambelt change then you can rest assured this example wants for nothing.
As with the rest of the vehicle, all running gear is in fantastic order.
The underside of this car is in simply beautiful original condition, and clearly demonstrates the love and care that has been shown to this car.
The original Ford RS 8 X 16” five-spoke alloy wheels are still fitted, and still have the original 225/45 ZR16 Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico tyres – these are for display purposes only and whilst they are not damaged, we would recommend new tyres for use on the road due to the age.
