A truly beautiful late GT6 Mk3 in arguably the best colour Triumph offered.
The car was driven from new in 1973 until the mid-eighties, then stored away until it was recently subjected to a professional restoration by MV Classics in Southampton.
The restoration was completed in 2012 at a cost of over £23,500, supported by detailed invoices and a full photographic record with almost 250 photos from MV Classics showing the bodywork, paint and mechanical work done at every stage.
Sadly, due to illness the car has been driven less than 100 miles since it was returned to the road in September 2012 following the restoration.
In addition to a strip down and rebuild of the entire car and its running gear, the engine was fully stripped and rebuilt including an unleaded conversion. The suspension, gearbox and overdrive were also rebuilt.
The interior is in beautiful condition with original fabric seats and a quality steam moulded carpet set. Except for a clock fitted in period and a cigarette lighter, the car is 100% standard and is in exactly the specification it left the Triumph factory in 1973. It even has the original static seat belts and an MW/LW Radio with single factory fitted speaker grille under the dash.
Outside there are all the correct period details like ‘Sundym’ glass and the original chrome sill trims and rubber sill weather strips, both of which were unique to the GT6 and are often missing.
In the boot there is a full-size spare (powder coated like the other 4 wheels) plus the original tool roll with jack, spanners and even a matching plug spanner.
In the history file there are old MOTs, the original handbook, service book and several invoices from MV Classics detailing the restoration work. I can provide a USB drive containing the 244 restoration photographs.
If you know your GT6s then you’ll recognise what a truly unique opportunity this is to be just the second keeper of a totally original specification car with less than 45,000 miles driven. In addition, you have the reassurance of that £23,500 spent recently to fully restore it both bodily and mechanically, making this a very usable car.
If you’re looking for a GT6, trust me this is the one. For sale at about 2/3 of what’s been spent on it this is a bargain and I’ll regret selling it forever I’m certain.
The car is currently SORN and will be MOT exempt.
Any questions or inspections are very welcome. If you need more photos of any specific part of the car just ask.
