1952 Riley RMF 2.5 Saloon, Superb Driver, 20k Spent For Sale

FPR 76 was first registered on the 4th November 1952 and still retains its original brown ‘buff’ logbook, original colour of Black and original factory supplied 2.5 litre engine. The Riley spent its first eight years in Gillingham, Kent before moving to Portland, Dorset in 1960. By 1962 the RMF was in Cannock, Staffordshire and later in the 1960’s the car was in Wolverhampton. We have original tax discs from 1963 and 1967 and it would appear the Riley was off the road during the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s, selling to a Harrogate based owner in 2001 as a total time warp, original car with a recorded mileage of 42000 that was unknown to the Riley club. Between 2001 and 2003 the RMF was put back on the road and treated to a sympathetic restoration. The 2.5 engine was stripped down and rebuilt with re metalled main bearing shells, machined con rods, re-ground crankshaft, treated to new cylinder liners and new pistons. The Riley was mechanically re-commissioned with new parts to include starter ring gear, timing chain, new coolant hoses, new clutch, brakes overhauled, and various work carried out to the steering and suspension. The Riley was treated to a re-trim, various new brightwork, some re-chroming and a full re-paint. FPR 76 was back on the road by 2003. Between 2003 and 2004 the Riley RMF was used for classic car fair weather driving and attending various events and rallies to include Ripley Show in 2003. Sadly, the Riley was then parked under cover for almost ten years having covered around 1000 miles since restoration. In 2013, its then elderly owner decided to part with the car. Unfortunately, the RMF had been poorly stored and the owner was distraught to see the car heavily deteriorated having spent nine years under cover and whilst in strong mechanical condition, the car needed serious work to the ash frame and upholstery. During 2014 the Riley was stripped back and the ash frame rebuilt with new timber to include A posts, roof rail, windscreen bottom rail, scuttle knee set, lower roof corners, roof centre rails, roof top corners, rear window sub assembly, cant rails and timber interior light panels. The RM was also treated to a new vinyl roof, new bumpers and over-riders, all supplied by the Riley RM Centre. The interior woodwork was removed, re-veneered and polished and the seats re-covered in leather, new carpets fitted, new door cards, headlining and boot carpet. Having then been placed in storage, more recently the Riley has been treated to a re-conditioned water pump, engine oil and filter change, new plugs and brake service. Having had in the region of £20,000 spent on the car, its now once again a strong car with superb wood frame, excellent structural integrity and has a lovely sweet rebuilt engine that has only covered around 1200 miles since it was fully rebuilt. The four speed gearbox is super smooth and delightful up and down the gearbox, the car pulls strongly offering impressive performance. FPR 76 presents well with a lovely deep paint finish, lovely chrome and is now on the button, ready to use and enjoy.
