M968 RUR is one of fifty RS's licensed for the road today, one of only 180 right hand drives converted for the UK, NZ and RSA markets, all of a total of 2,896 built. The RS2 was the first Rs-badged Audi and – thanks in no small part to Porsche – gained almost legendary status. The body may have been built in Ingolstadt, but the heart of the RS2 could be found at Porsche in Zuffenhausen. Back in 1994 ,the Audi RS2 was the quickest estate car on the planet. Labradors had never travelled more quickly.
The body - an Audi 80 was built by Audi and shipped to Porsche where the suspension was uprated and lowered by 40mm, four pot Brembo brakes and vented discs were fitted, the 6 speed gearbox reworked to accept and respond to the power given by Audi's famous 2.2 litre engine with larger turbo. Door mirrors and wheels were taken from the 968. The car achieved 162mph and interestingly, Autocar in test recorded 0-30mph in an unbelievable 1.5 seconds (which outpaced the McLaren F1) and 0-62mph in 4.8 seconds.
M968 RUR has been without compromise of quality and comfort, developed further and certainly now surpasses all the performance levels it was attired with when new. Dynamically it now has new neutral handling having had its stock understeer dialed out. Other examples of the many improvements include; brakes uprated to Porsche GT3 four pot calipers, uprated turbo, oil cooler, suspension and custom mapping. These and many other improvements are recorded in its full history file. The car now develops over 425bhp and a mid-range torque 590Nm . 0-60mph is around 4.2 seconds with a top speed in excess of 180mph.
Finished in classic RS2 Pearl Nogaro Blue paint, M968 RUR enjoys blue Alcantara chamois electric Recaro seats and inlaid blue carbon fibre interior trim, it is perhaps the finest and most developed example of an RS2 on the road today. A fully documented history recorded by the six previous owners supports the vehicle.
