| | | 1930 Standard Avon Alvis Special.
Chassis number: 29035
Registration number: BV304
Constructed by the current engineer owner, an Alvis afficionado, & well known on the historic race circuits of the UK. This special was built up using a Standard Avon chassis as the basis of the car. A highly tuned & race prepared Alvis 12/50 engine was built & fitted. Works to the engine include:
Bored to 1800cc
Phoenix Billet Crank shaft.
Phoenix rods,
Strengthened main centre bearing,
Dry Sumped,
Auxilliary oil tank,
Gas Flowed head with 37mm inlet & exhaust,
Solid copper head gasket,
David Newman 20/60 cam shaft,
Special cam followers,
Lightened clutch housing.
The car is euipped with hydraulic brakes with a pair of master cylinders, one for each axle. Braided hoses are fitted along with cast finned front drums.
Gear box is Alvis 12/50 with constant mesh 19/30 close ration gears.
Rear axle is Standard Avon running a 4.55 Ratio.
The fuel is delivered via fuel pump to twin SU carburettors from an aluminium 8 gallon tank.
Other mods include Bugatti style Marechal head lamps, Scintilla Vertex Magneto, Lucas starter, Map Light, Radiator fan & master cut off switch. The car runs on 10-60 fully synthetic oil whilst cooling is 50/50 glycol & de ionised water.
As one may geather a lot of time effort & thought went into this car to produce a fast & competent vintage racing special which performs particularly well given the high output engine & light aluminium body work. The car is suited to a driver of smaller stature, but there is ample room behind the drivers seat to modify the body work & move the seats further back should it be so required.
The rear of the car hinges open allowing for soft luggage to be stowed for touring. The car is fully road legal & road registered. Lights & wings etc are easily removed for track use. Once removed the car passes scrutineering with no problems as evidenced by the various stickers on the dash.

We've just taken delivery of this wonderful 1947 Standard Flying 8 Tourer with 76,300 miles on. This car is in very good condition for it's age and runs really well as we took it out for a drive when it arrived. We’re delighted to present a show quality Standard Twelve with a fascinating history – a car which we found unrestored in a York City Centre garage in 2011. We quickly sold the car as a ‘barn find’ for restoration and the exceptional result of a body–off, bare chassis, back to the frame restoration is remarka
