Nawal Saighal and David Brayshaw drove WCE 132 in the 1996 adventure with Brayshaw later writing a book ‘The Road to Beijing’ detailing their incredibly adventure. The car also featured in Revcounter of January 1994 with the story ‘Run to Red Square’ for the 1993 Moscow journey.
Not only does the car have this fame and pedigree but its factory provenance is high. Built on 23- 29thDecember 1960 as an original home market right hand drive car WCE 132 remains in it’s original colour combination of Healey Blue Metallic with Navy leather interior with White piping, Navy carpet with Navy Everflex wet weather gear. Even better still the car features an original factory hardtop. These items are exceptionally rare and valued at £3-5, 000 on their own. The car retains it original registration number.
Since the London to Moscow 1993 and London to Beijing 1996 rallies in 2012 the car received a full body off, engine out respray in to remove the stone chips from the gruelling trails (thankfully the underside was protected by massive aluminium plates). The car has covered a little under 6, 000 miles since and remains in good condition.
WCE 132 drives exceptionally well with Nawal Saighal its owner of over 28 years commenting on its reliability, dependability and ability to always start “on the button!”. Performance of the car is very strong and it does indeed ride and handle especially well.
As an original UK car WCE 132 is supplied with its original buff log book plus continuation book plus a British Motor Heritage Certificate, service history, MOTs, maintenance diary, photographic documentation of restoration, traceability of ownership from new, original 3000 MkI handbook as well as photos and documentation of 1993 and 1996 trips, underbody protection as used on rallies plus a spares collection.
