1970 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV Mk 2 For Sale
I have owned this lovely GTV for over 10 years and it's an absolute joy to drive. So far as I can tell it's a local (Ipswich) car and appears to have been either highly optioned by the first owner, or had period accessories fitted very soon after purchase. It has a full length original Webasto sunroof fitted by Botwoods of Ipswich - a very well known local firm of the time. The sunroof is in lovely condition and works perfectly with no leaks. It also still has its Perspex wind deflector, which is now quite rare and is in remarkable condition. Also fitted in period is an unusual Smiths external temperature gauge which works by capillary/mercury tube similar to 1960’s water temperature gauges. Again this is working perfectly and provides a good idea of ambient temperature. There is also a period electronic Smiths time clock which has been updated internally to provide reliability. The original period radio has been overhauled internally to provide a modern FM radio and input for an Ipod/Mp3 player. Finally, it still retains its original, and now quite rare, Carrello headlights. During my ownership I had a few minor bodywork repairs carried out (photos available) where there was some localised rust as might be expected from a car of this age. These areas were repaired professionally before a repaint in its original colour of Bianco Spino. The chassis, sills, floorpans, etc., are all rock solid indicating this has always been a well looked after, rustproofed car. Every year, I top up the under body protection with professional products from Rustbuster. Mechanically, this Alfa is in lovely original condition and has never been messed about with in any way although I have subtly added some modern modern upgrades as below. During my ownership I have replaced the radiator core (because the original was partially blocked although it still never overheated!), had the cylinder head, cams, gearbox, carbs (Webers, not Solex) and brakes overhauled. I have also fitted electronic ignition (inside the original distributor which was rebuilt with the advance curve remapped for unleaded fuel) plus a high torque starter for greater reliability. There is also an upgraded wiper motor and intermittent control (subtly hidden under the dash). The only suspension modification is the removal of the rear anti-roll bar which is a known and recommended improvement. I still have the original anti-roll bar which will go with the car, as will its original starter and wiper motor. Under the bonnet is very original, clean, tidy and unmolested – but not concours. The interior is in excellent condition. The boot trim and rubber matting are also in lovely condition although the rubber matting is a new replica replacement. There is a very detailed history folder with the car going back to around 1996 including all MOT's and receipts for many thousands of pounds spent at Classic Alfa specialists. To sum up, this is a stunning classic car for someone who also loves driving . We have always used it regularly and thoroughly enjoyed it. It has never, ever, let us down and recently completed a faultless European tour to the South of France and Italy where it used absolutely no oil or water in over 3000 miles! It never missed a beat during the tour and the temperature gauge never shifted above normal even in the Continental heat and traffic jams. It drives exactly as Alfa intended it to without modified harsh suspension, fast road cams, etc. A local Alfa specialist who regularly services the car always remarks upon how well it drives. The only reason it's for sale is that we have too many Classics and some of them have been in the family too long to let go! So, sadly, the Alfa needs to find a new loving home. Any questions, please feel free to ask and I’ll do my best to answer them.
