Lenkwerk – Bielefeld Am Stadtholz 24-26 33609 Bielefeld Germany

1969 30 year ownership fastidiously maintained MG C SOLD

A meticulously maintained and now rare MG C GT - Last owner some 30 years.

Price: €28, 995 Year: 1969 Mileage: 19, 424 kilometers

History – Our LHD example was initially registered in California in the United States in July 1969 before landing in Germany in 1990. The single registered German owner would commence with a complete frame restoration which would culminate in the final stages of 1995. Driven sparingly on trade plates for 5 years, the car was then first registered in 2000. Treasured for almost 30 years, this lovely example has wanted literally for nothing; every mechanical element has been changed over the years when necessary but, still retaining the cars wonderful character and patina. In preparation for the 2020 season, a complete service has been carried out with all oils and filters changed. In keeping with year on year fastidious maintenance, valves have been reset along with brake hoses, rear brake shoes and break cylinders all changed. In conclusion, what we have here is without hesitation the best maintained MG C, or B for that matter, we’ve ever encountered, and will be fully appreciated by a true MG enthusiast.

Exterior – The car was painted in its original Primrose Yellow livery by renowned classic car painter Dirk Wallaschek in 1995 and is still in superb condition. Set against the cars original green tinted glass the contrast is stunning and will not disappoint any new owner. A Tudor sunroof is in sublime condition and moves effortlessly when required. Equally, both doors open and, in particular, close with consummate ease without the usual heave and shove required by many similar models. Although not perfect, the car still retains its original chrome and does not offend by any stretch of the imagination. Viewing is always recommended, but we are convinced that this is one of the very best available and indeed a rare opportunity to acquire a superbly maintained C GT.

Interior – The original seats are oozing patina and could have been restored a number of years ago, but it was decided - quite rightly - simply to leave them exactly as they are. The single German owner has changed the instruments to a kilometer tacho unit for ease of European driving. Open air driving is made possible by the Tudor roof which adds such character to the car and it’s probably rarer to see these cars without a roof than with.

Engine & Gearbox – The car has been regularly maintained by the last owner of some 30 years with some nice additional touches for a more comfortable drive: finely tuned original MG B GT V8 carburetors offer much lower RMP, and a reconfigured (3, 07:1) rear axle combine nicely making this a comfortable GT cruiser. XRN Engineering Ltd in Surrey England supplied the current block during the restoration as the original was completely seized. Subsequently, the cylinder head has been converted to lead free; rocker cover, camshaft, water pump have all been changed. Plus the flywheel, crankshaft, clutch, pulley, have also all been finely balanced. Transmission bearings and overdrive have been replaced too and it must be added that the car starts superbly well and drives even better.

Wheels, Tyres & Brakes – Painted wires are housed in zero compromise Pirelli P6000 185/ 70 VR15 tyres for a more modern road feel and really do set the car up nicely. The brakes are superb with a recent service including brake hoses, rear brake shoes and cylinders all changed.
