THE SEAGULL HAS LANDED, THE SEAGULL HAS LANDED, THE SEAGULL HAS LANDED,

FLIGHT OF THE SEAGULL.

Founded by Gordon Francis and Arthur Barnett, using their surnames as the title, they set up shop in old Excelsior works in Coventry in 1919. The downturn in the motorcycle market in the early 1920's prompted them to switch from producing expensive, high-quality machines to more utilitarian bikes. First seen in 1923 was the triangulated, pin-jointed, straight-tube frame models whose novel method of construction gave rise to 'Built Like a Bridge' advertising slogan.
