This is a very rare Jensen Interceptor as it is one of the early MkIII 'G series' cars that came with the 6.3 litre V8 engine, which was soon to be replaced with the 7.2 litre unit. As such, it represents an excellent opportunity to create something that will be highly collectable when finished.

Overall the car is very complete - externally only one side indicator lens, rear badge and one small piece of exterior trim are missing (these are all available). Everything else appears to be present and correct and very original, even the 8-track stereo unit.

It has clearly had a restoration in the past at some point (probably in the '80s), where the colour has been changed from the original Tangerine to Brienz Blue. The original Tangerine can still be seen on the roof (it would have had a vinyl covering originally). I personally think the car would look stunning back in its original colour as you hardly ever see these cars in the brighter '70s colour schemes.

Unfortunately, the blue paint is really starting to lift away from the tangerine paint underneath, so it will need a full respray and also some replacement panels. The obvious areas are the front panel below the bumper and some repairs will be needed to the rear panel below the bumper and one or two wheel arches, as a minimum. The wheels are original and one has been restored properly but the others will need doing. The floor pan, sills and chassis are all sound, so it's a very good base for a restoration.

The engine does turn (it gets turned frequently to make sure nothing seizes), but it hasn't been started for a couple of years as the fuel filler hose has perished, so there is no fuel in the tank. When it was last started it ran fine with very little smoke and good compression (and gear changes were ok). It has new HT leads but will need a new distributor cap (cracked).

Obviously, as it has not been driven for quite a few years, it will need a full recommission of pretty much everything and I would recommend new suspension, brakes, hoses, bushes etc, which should all be available via the various specialists in the UK.

The interior presents well and is original although there are signs of wear to the leather seats and one or two areas on the rear seat bases will need repair (easy to do as its the flat panels). All the dials and switches etc are present and correct. It will need new front footwell carpets. The chrome is good all round and the rear exhaust is stainless steel and in good order.

The car comes with a V5, 3 new workshop manuals (x2 for engine, x1 for other mechanicals etc), a parts catalogue and a reproduction owners handbook, all supplied by Martin Robey Ltd. There is no history with the car (this was misplaced by a previous owner).

Unfortunately I have too many projects on, so I am making some space in the workshop to focus on other cars, hence the Jensen is for sale. I bought this one as it was rare and solid and I wanted to do a full restoration to bring it back to life and to drive it, but I think it will be up to someone else to do that and get this beautiful car back on the road.

The car is located at my workshop near Honiton (east Devon) and can be viewed any Mon-Sat (Sunday by arrangement). When the sun eventually comes out I will try to get some better photos outside.

I can arrange delivery across UK mainland at reasonable cost, if required.
