Audi A4 1.8 SE 5-Speed Manual 92KW (125BHP)

Registered March 2000 Reg No. W941ADN

RFL: £270 (12 Months)

As new condition, fully serviced, new timing belt and water pump, ready to use. Would make a great daily driver you can own forever and get yourself off the PCP wheel of life. Great talking point and a car that still looks (and drives) thoroughly modern.

A car that turned Audi around in the late 1990s was the A4. The BMW 3-series had ruled the compact sports saloon sector for so long that many of its competitors had almost given up. Then the A4 arrived. What Car? magazine quickly awarded Audi its `Best Compact Executive` car award and other plaudits quickly followed.

Designated B5, this the original A4, took the Ingolstadt manufacturer back to the position it enjoyed 20 years previously, when the company's UK sales outstripped the combined efforts of Mercedes and BMW.

The range was launched in March 1995 to replace the 80 and 90-series cars. Spring 1999 saw the introduction of second generation A4 models, such as this example - though it was hard to tell the difference. Minor visual changes included a slightly more prominent front grille, revised rear tail light clusters and a new interior.

What marked the B5 out was a state-of-the-art chassis; elegant, well-proportioned looks, superb build-quality and good reliability.

An understated motorway flyer, these cars were and remain an intelligent buy as well as a desirable one. A car that finally got the measure of a BMW 3-series and certainly of any Mercedes. Wet or dry, the chassis grips like glue, inspiring confidence with its steering sensitivity and elastic ability to change direction even after you may have committed yourself to another course. It helps that the driving position is also almost faultless, thanks to a low-set dashboard and a height and reach-adjustable steering wheel and superbly comfortable height adjustable seats and automatic climate control. This is certainly a car that holds its own in modern traffic conditions and dare we say is easier to live with and manoeuvre in many scenarios. This particular example presents as new and would make an ideal commuting or station car whilst also being retro cool and yet somehow still very modern looking.

Being SE spec this particular outstanding example of the model benefits from a high level of standard equipment, especially for a German car of that era:

Fully Galvanised Body
Driver and Front Passenger Airbag / Front Side Airbags
Heated Door Mirrors
ABS
Leather Steering Wheel
Leather Gearshift
On-Board Computer with Check Control
7J x 16 Ten Spoke Alloys (including full-size spare)
Height Adjustable Front Seats
Remote Control Central Locking with Boot Release
Tinted Windshield with Sun Band
Front and Rear Electric Windows
Fully Automatic Climate Control
Audi Concert Radio Cassette
Front Fog Lamps

Optioned in very distinctive Jasper Green Metallic Paint (code LX6V), this car stands out on its attractive unmarked 10-spoke 16-inch alloys shod on original equipment Pirelli P6000 tyres (two brand new having been fitted on the front driven wheels), but also and mainly for its time-warp condition having covered LESS THAN 17,000 miles in the hands of one family ownership.

First registered by Audi Dealer Alexander Audi Huddersfield on 15th June 2000 it was very quickly purchased by the first owner, a gentleman from Halifax who acquired it on 18th June 2000 and owned it for a further 17 years, covering an average of less than 1,000 miles a year in that time.

The car still wears the original Alexander Audi number plates and dealer sticker in the rear window.

We are told that on his sad death the car was passed on within the family after its successful MOT test in 2017 but was little used and then laid up. We subsequently acquired the car with a view to re-commission it for a new discerning owner who will appreciate what is likely a unique and unrepeatable example of the coveted A4 model line. It is now prepared and ready for sale with new MOT, full service and timing belt change.

Despite the incredibly low annual mileage covered by the first owner, he was fastidious in keeping the vehicle serviced, with a total of 12 stamps in the Service Book or around once every 1,500 miles on average compared to Audi’s recommendation of every 19,000 miles which the car has not even reached in total yet!

The Service Book is part of the original wallet and contents for the car including Owner’s Manual and Quick Reference Guide and Brochure.

The Service History for the car is as follows:

Long Life Service (using Long Life Castrol Oil with up to 20,000 mile/24 month service intervals) - 7th June 2001. Mileage 2368

Inspection Service - 24th June 2002. Mileage 4399

Long Life Service and MOT - 12th June 2003. Mileage 6058

The car retains the ‘Next Service’ sticker installed by the Audi dealer Alexander Audi at the time of the above service stating next service due 12th June 2005 or at 25,000 miles. We are still over 8,000 miles from that milestone!

Inspection Service and MOT - 15th June 2004. Mileage 7478

Inspection Service and MOT - 10th June 2005. Mileage 8757

MOT 15th June 2006. Mileage 9924. No advisories

Inspection Service - 27th June 2006. Mileage 10005

MOT - 27th June 2007, Mileage 10858. No advisories

Oil Change Service - 20th July 2008. Mileage 12080

MOT - 25th June 2009. Mileage 12727. No advisories

Oil Change Service - 25th June 2009. Mileage 12727

MOT - 25th June 2010. Mileage 13003. No advisories

Inspection Service - 24th June 2011. Mileage 13254

MOT - 24th June 2011. Mileage 13254. No advisories

Inspection Service - 25th June 2012. Mileage 13591

MOT - 25th June 2012. Mileage 13591. Advisory for Air Bag Light on

MOT - 15th July 2013. Mileage 13912. On this occasion the MOT was a fail due to the aforementioned Air Bag Light due to an MOT rule change.

MOT subsequently passed 19th July 2013. Mileage 13915

MOT - 19 July 2014. Mileage 14149. No advisories

Inspection Service - 9th July 2015. Mileage 14417

MOT - 9th July 2015. Mileage 14417. Advisory on deterioration of rear number plate which has since been replaced whilst retaining the original supplying dealer frame.

MOT - 20th June 2016. Mileage 14651. No advisories

MOT - 19th June 2017. Mileage 14847. Another new MOT rule was for fuel cap sealing and this was a failure in this case. A new genuine Audi fuel cap has been fitted and the car re-tested and passed on same day 19th June 2017

The car covered a further 1500 miles before being laid up. A new MOT was acquired on 6th February 2019 at mileage of 16344 with an advisory on light surface corrosion to some suspension components due to being laid up and which has since been cleaned off (though there was in truth very little to see and indeed only on the surface) - the underside of the car and springs, shocks and exhaust heatshields looking virtually brand new.

Current Mileage is 16800 which includes over 200 miles of shakedown testing by Classic Modern Cars.

A new MOT was obtained on 11th January 2020 expiring 5th February 2021.

The engine oil and brake fluid appeared fresh but in any case these were replaced and a full service carried out including coolant flush, new air filter and all hydraulic fluids checked. A brand new battery was also fitted along with correct wiper blades.

Audi recommends that the cam belt is replaced every 115,000 miles (i.e. in approximately 100,000 miles in this case) but we have changed this, along with the tensioner, new replacement water pump and thermostat, all as a precautionary measure based on age and for peace of mind for the new keeper.

Two brand new Pirelli P6000 tyres have been fitted on the front driven wheels as originally factory installed by Audi to the car.

The car is now ready for its next keeper to use and enjoy the car in whichever way they wish. Unrepeatable

A very reluctant sale unfortunately. I haven't had this car long and have enjoyed driving it, but my fleet is going to be out of control unless something gives.
This a rare A4 2.6 with the older.....

Silver Metallic with Dark Grey Cloth interior and Walnut trim

This extremely low mileage example has been owned by my father since new and he regrettably needs to sell due to ill health.
