1936 A Rare Peugeot 302 Airstream Wehrmacht staff car For Sale
This Peugeot model 302 was first introduced at the 1936 Paris Motor Show, with it's unique Art-Deco design The chassis number confirms that this car is one of the very last Peugeot 302's produced after an extremely short factory production run prior to WW2 and is estimated to have been built between March and April 1938. making this an extremely rare vehicle. Not unusually, this being a requisitioned vehicle there are no available Wehrmacht registration papers but conclusive evidence shows that it had been a vehicle used by the WW2 German Wehrmacht as a staff car. It's pre war colour (paint analysis verification) clearly shows the cars initial factory colour, followed by its military re-paint, then it's post war return to original colour..The exterior has more recently being professionally restored to return it back to it's WW2 military paintwork, then had been cosmetically treated to age it to look totally in wartime period, it also includes the absolutely original military fittings being the authentic Notek lamp and a searchlight which fitted exactly in the old and original attachment holes sited in the front fender and on the bulkhead which became evident during the refurbishment. After WW2 the car spent many years in regular use throughout eastern France and eventually came to England in 2016. This car has had a complete sympathetic restoration but still retains all of it's originality, including the 1758 cc OHV engine and running gear and completely original although slightly worn interior plus retaining all of the original carpets, mats, seats, panels and fully working genuine ribbed semaphore indicators, all being .completely original to this car. The vehicle is UK registered on a period numberplate with a current V5C log book and a recorded low overall use of 73,745 km. believed to be completely genuine. When first having arrived in England, although being a totally rust free and undamaged vehicle, it was wax treated and was also converted to run on one high capacity 12 volt battery rather than the two tandem 6volt batteries, the water pump was professionally rebuilt, the engine sump had been removed and all internals checked, cleaned and then re-assembled with all new gaskets etc, the car has more recently been fully serviced and all of the electrics checked and tested. The radiator was also removed, cleaned and a period pattern temperature gauge fitted below the dashboard with a vintage vacuum gauge to monitor the wellbeing of the engine. The brakes have been fully checked and adjusted as have the front wheel bearings, steering, suspension, etc.?Since 2017, the Peugeot has attended rallies in England and France, and successfully completed the Fougeres Rally in May 2018. This car runs remarkably well and keeps up with modern traffic, has been extremely reliable and always starts on the button. It is one of the most original surviving original 302's being offered for sale anywhere,. It is in constant use with very good oil pressure and a splendid cruising speed, the steering is good and positive and it sits on excellent tyres , although the spare tyre holds air pressure but looks to be pre war. This Peugeot is far rarer than most all of the Wehrmacht requisitioned staff cars and is in itself a charming example of period Art Deco aerodynamic design of the 1930's. There is a full file with the car to include a digital folder containing original parts lists, original advertising brochures and technical information, The added bonus is that most all spares ever needed can still be obtained from Depanoto and Auto4A whose catalogue is in the file. It is without doubt the worst time ever to sell any specialist vehicle, however, as I am also looking to acquire either a WW2 Willys jeep or a genuine WW2 twin cylinder motorcycle, I would therefore prefer to take these in exchange for my car and if needed do a cash settlement either way.
