AThe MG B was already the epitome of the modern British sportscar and it wasn’t until 1965 at the Earls Court Motor Show, the ground breaking Pininfarina styled 2-door sporty “hatch-back” made its debut. An icon to be remembered, the MG B GT is the car that brought sports car motoring to the masses at an affordable cost.

Being MG’s most performance-oriented model at the time, the MG B GT featured a dependable twin-S.U. carburettor 1.8 litre B-series engine, which from 1964 was upgraded to a five-bearing crankshaft that produced 95 bhp. In 1968 the transmission was upgraded from a straight cut first gear to a four-speed full synchromesh gearbox with optional overdrive allowing a smoother drive around town and lower fuel consumption on the motorway.

A little bit of Australian motoring history: BMC’s first factory was completed in Zetland, Sydney in 1952 and here they assembled the MG A Roadster, the MG B Roadster, the MG Midget and Austin Healey Sprite. With the MGB GT only built in the U.K. factory, exportation to Australia was costly due to import duties, therefore today a genuine Australian delivered example is hard to find.

We are excited to come across this absolute gem. Offered here is a 1968 MG B GT ordered in Snowberry White over Black with Red Piping, numbers matching and originally sold new to Mr R. Snoswell through Newport Motors Hendon, South Australia in October of 1968.

Totally original, this time-warp example is something we’ve not seen before. From the patina in the paintwork to the preserved interior trim, spritely motor and agile drivetrain, this MGB GT is second to none.

Offered with extensive paperwork we can track this vehicle and confirm its three-owner history.

Still retaining its original BMC Passport to Service and handbook, it’s original two numbered keys, service records dating back to 1968, Heritage Certificate, the bill of sale for when it changed hands in 1983 and the original newspaper clipping where it was advertised, this level of documentation adds incredible value to this collectible British classic.

The 1983 newspaper advertisement reads “An original 40,370 miles, 1 enthusiast owner traded on new Porsche 911 SC, 1975 National MG Car Club Concours Winner, Inspect it at our showroom”.

The second owner whom purchased the car from a Porsche dealer proceeded to own the vehicle for the next 34 years keeping a log of servicing, maintenance and mechanical overhauls.

It was in 2017 where it changed hands to its third owner, a classic car collector, whom continued its preservation and has done so ever since with regular maintenance and every so often a good Sunday drive.

A car like this with exceptional provenance, originality and local heritage rarely exists and would suit the judicious classic car collector or avid MG B enthusiast.
