1955 Lotus MK IX, s/n 136 History
Model MK IX
Chassis No. MK 9 136
Engine No. FWB 400-8 6879
This is an original MK IX Lotus Competition Car that was completed in the Fall of 1955 by Colin Chapman’s Lotus Engineering Co. Ltd. Few original production records for these ultra-rare Sports Racers survive. Depending on what source is sighted, no fewer than 22 and certainly no more than 30 different examples were completed. How many of these that survive today remains unknown.
Chassis 136 was one of the complete non-component cars sold and exported new as a complete running / racing car Sports International/Le Mans model. The original sale was done through Ken Miles out of Los Angeles California who for a short while in 1955 was the official Lotus Agent for the United States. Miles apparently ordered up five examples including one for himself.
