1967 Jaguar E-Type Series I 4.2 Roadster, 62800 miles, UK RHD For Sale
The E-Type was despatched from Henlys, London and first registered on the 14th April 1967, supplied new to its first owner H Pearce Esq in Luton, Bedfordshire. By 1971 the E-Type had made its way to Yorkshire, registered in Swainby, Northallerton and an MOT certificate from 1973 records the mileage at six years old at 48369 miles. Over the next seven years the E-Type only covered 600 miles, and in 1981 the E-Type was back in the South with an owner in Blackheath, London and service receipts from Jaguar & Daimler specialists E&D Motors in London are on file at 50053 miles. In May 1982 the E-Type changed hands again, selling to the long term owner who cherished this car for 37 years. Initially the E-Type was in regular use, from 1982 to 1985 the car covered around 5000 miles and many invoices and receipts for maintenance throughout this period are in the comprehensive history file. In 1985, the E-Type was taken off the road and in the region of £5500 spent on stripping the car down and restoring the completely original bodyshell.
During the mid-1980's the long term owner moved north to Edinburgh and the E-Type painted, and built back up with wheels back on and engine in, was put into storage with a classic car restoration company for fifteen years. In 2000, the Jaguar was then put back on the road with £22000 of expenditure with Classic Restorations of Scotland (including various new parts from SNG Barratt). Having had the initial expenditure in order to see the E-Type back on the road, in 2001/ 2002 Classic Car Interiors in Scotland re-trimmed the car, M&C Wilkinson Ltd supplied a 5 speed Getrag gearbox for fitting by Classic Restorations taking expenditure to well over £27000 - somewhere close to the cost of an E-Type Roadster in the early 2000's. By 2001 the E-Type was back on the road for the first time since 1985 and covered over 2000 miles up to 2007 when Classic Restorations took the car in for paintwork (first time since 1985) with invoices on file for over £5, 000.
Throughout the 2000's the E-Type continued to be maintained by the Scottish restoration specialists and by 2016 the E-Type mileage had been taken up to 61000 miles. At this point, from the paperwork it would seem the car was to have its first full engine rebuild and Milford Vintage Engineering Ltd were commissioned to do the work. A staggering £26, 000 was spent on an extensive engine rebuild plus further related mechanical, setting up and build up work. Invoices from 2016-2017 are with the car, as is a photographic record that ensuring the work was superbly documented. Later in 2017 a further £10, 000 was spent with AJS Engineering, Jaguar differential specialists. The differential was removed, completely rebuilt and with the rear cage removed, built up with upgraded Fosseway brakes and rebuilt suspension. Most recently in late 2018, the E-Type was treated to a major service and some paintwork refreshing ensuring the car was presented in beautiful condition.
Over 2019 PGX 945E has covered just 50/ 60 miles and we are now pleased to offer the car onto the open market for the first time in 38 years. The E-Type is a truly delightful example, presenting beautifully with a superb bodyshell with a lovely paint finish, chrome work is of a very high standard, as are wheels and Black mohair hood. The interior presents superbly having been re-trimmed in the early 2000's and the body colour underside is very impressive. The under bonnet space frame, battery tray area etc is correct body colour but has not had major paintwork since its initial body restoration so detailing and paintwork can be discussed, the engine and ancillaries are very clean and well presented, as are the under bonnet panels. On the road PGX 945E performs incredibly well with a fantastic, strong rebuilt engine that's not even run in a couple of thousand miles since the major expenditure. The 4. 2 engine holds excellent oil pressure, sounds super fit and is impressive on the road, pulling through the gears with fantastic power. The five speed Getrag gearbox is a true delight, its fantastic to use and with a rebuilt rear suspension and upgraded brakes, the E-Type is so enjoyable to drive and feels lovely on the road. This is a car that offer so much, its not only a fantastic drivers car, it has the provenance of ultra-low mileage from new, extensive history, a long term owner of 38 years, original colours, original engine block and highly desirable upgrades such as the five speed gearbox and larger brakes. This is a car to use and enjoy but is also a real collector's piece with unrepeatable provenance.
