The Lancia Flaminia, named after the via Flaminia, the road leading from Rome to Rimini, is a luxury car produced from 1957 to 1970.
It was Lancia’s flagship model at that time. Lancia’s Flaminia line was the successor to the ground-breaking Aurelia.
Designed by newly recruited Antonio Fessia, the Flaminia retained its predecessor’s mechanical layout, though the form of unitary construction was changed and Lancia’s traditional ‘sliding pillar’ independent front suspension, which had been used on every model since 1922, gave way to a more modern double wishbone and coil spring arrangement.
The Flaminia coupé and convertible were coachbuilt cars with bodies from several prestigious Italian coachbuilders.
In addition to the Pinin Farina-designed, factory-built berlina, coachbuilt Flaminias were available as a Coupé from Pinin Farina, a Sport from Zagato, and the GT and GT Convertible from Touring, in their patented Superleggera construction, of aluminium panels over a frame of thin steel tubes.
The sporty Flaminias were capable of around 210km/ h (130mph) and was Lancia’s top-of-the-range Gran Turismo for the era.
ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC EXAMPLE
This beautiful Flaminia Spider was first registered on 22th November 1968. The car was originally delivered in Holland.
The car is equipped with the desirable 3C triple-carburettor engine, as well as the largest possible engine for this type of car, the 2. 8 Liter 6 cylinder engine.
The Flaminia 2. 8-litre convertible is one of only 180 examples produced compared with over 1, 500 of the 2. 5-litre version.
The Lancia is incredibly impressive restored and has received a variety of upgrades.
The Flaminia’s most recent owner was a marque specialists who wanted it to be perfect while retaining the original look and feel.
In the former owner’s hands the car was subjected to a complete very impressively restoration were every single part has been taken out, inspected and, when needed, taken apart or improved.
Without looking at expenses, this Flaminia Touring Convertible was upgraded with a variety of parts which will give the future owner immense fun and reliability, even when the car is not being driven regularly.
Certain parts, like the brakes, have been replaced by stainless steel upgrades, resulting in much less or even no maintenance.
The paintwork is in fine condition, showing quite well with a deep gloss. The colour Grigio Cascine fits the car very well.
With excellent brightwork and improved inox parts, bumpers, badges and front grille all look absolutely stunning.
As can be concluded, this car has been very impressively restored and upgraded and is now technically in better than new condition.
Red leather upholstery on the seats and interior panels provides a beautiful striking contrast against the Grey paintwork.
The leather seats are in a wonderful condition, the dashboard is superbly sprayed and all meters have been completely overhauled and are in a perfect working order.
We can write a long story about the interior but it’s just superb and couldn’t be better. It is as new.
An extra nice and very useful addition is a heating system in both seats!
For some years now, we drive the Mille Miglia in a 1928 Lancia Lambda.
We already knew from the books that Lancia had always been synonymous with state of art technology and we were completely convinced after our 2018, 2019 and 2020 Mille Miglia experience.
Built for covering long distances in comfort and style, this Lancia Flaminia Convertible is a superbly usable car.
The convertible versions of the Lancia Flaminia was made in relatively small numbers and surviving examples in good condition are, therefore, quite rare.
The rare 2. 8-litre Flaminia is one of the most sought after of ‘old school’ classic Lancias and this example, with its most attractive colour combination of metallic Grey and Red leather interior, has to be one of the best currently available.
Eligible for many rallies and concours events around the world, this fine Lancia would be a nice addition to any collection.
