1988 Austin Montego, rare timewarp condition, 19k miles SOLD

A very rare opportunity to acquire what is, almost certainly, one of very best of the best un-restored original condition and low mileage year Austin Montego.

Just 19, 265 (nineteen thousand) miles from new.
Un-restored and unmolested retaining all of its original panels and glass plus practically all of its factory paint finish.

An interior that can truly be described as exemplary and as good as you could ever hope for in any classic car.
A matching numbers car with some history file.

An absolute must have for any Montego aficionado, or indeed any collector, investor or classic car enthusiast.
One of eleven 1. 6L left in the UK.
Absolutely outstanding!

E74WYB
On the 17th May 1988 registered to the first owner of E74WYB avis Trident house Haynes, This was a common practice among large companies back then buy a large volume of cars at a seriously substantial discount sometimes up to 50/ 60% keep them for a very short time and move them on for more than they paid for them, nowadays dealers do it themselves by pre registering cars,
A Standard 1. 6L, no factory options had been ordered other than the gold metallic paint.

On the 2. 9. 1988, some three months old the car was sold to Mr Layland. A gentleman who was of advancing years, purchased the car in Wigan Lancashire.
I Believe the car was used sparingly until 2014 for supermarket runs and church on Sundays. The car was then purchased by Russ Swift.

Russ Swift, A Well-known stunt driver “google him for more information” There is a letter in the pack from Mr Swift stating the car was never used for stunt purposes. He also states that he believes the mileage of 17552 is correct a the 5. 9. 15.

The car was purchased in late 2015 by a Mr Holmes of Lincoln
At that time, owing to its low mileage and outstanding original condition, the Montego was acquired for use as a where it stayed carefully looked after and attended shows in Lincolnshire. During this time, it won best in show “a rosette is with the car.”
It was then acquired by an enthusiast who is an avid enthusiast Montego fan. A Mr Bray.

Today the mileage from new is just 19264. This Montego 1. 6L is a true survivor, the like of which even we rarely see. It is presented in first class original condition. Pretty much every part is that fitted factory and is almost 33 years old.

It is a show winner, if ever we saw one, and must surely be the finest, lowest mileage, original stock condition example of this model left anywhere in the world......... and consequently has a WOW factor off the scale.

BODYWORK
Retaining all of its original panels.
E74WYB has, never been welded, none is required and it is remarkably rust free. The Mot Inspector stated the underbody is stunning.

The vast majority (in fact very nearly all) of the paint finish would seem to be that applied at the factory and maintains a good lustre for its years.

There are stone chips, small imperfections and some edges where the paint has worn thin, there are also tiny areas of minor surface only oxidisation following storage chips and blemishes,

The door shuts, boot and bonnet shuts are excellent.
All the windows operate just as they should.

INTERIOR
Exemplary. There is no mistaking that this is an extraordinarily low mileage car that has never been left out in the elements or for long periods in sunlight.
The door cards which, are perfect
In line with the rest of the car you could be forgiven for thinking that this is a vehicle that is only a couple of years old when you see the interior.

The original fabric Gold/ Cream seats are unmarked and the best I have ever seen. The back seat, we should think, has never been used.
There is very little wear, staining or fading to the original carpets.
The floors below the carpets are excellent.
On the dash, instruments all present as though they are almost new.
The door rubbers are also close to perfect.
The steering wheel is exceptional - always a sign of how well a classic car has been treated.
The headlining has been recently replaced and sun visors are excellent this is not a car that has been smoked in.

UNDER THE BONNET
Under the bonnet the engine bay is fantastic and only through such limited use could it present so well and correct.
Once again you would never know the true age of the vehicle from an inspection in here.

IN THE BOOT
The boot looks as though very little has ever been put in it!
The spare wheel well is brand new with labels still on.
Wheel brace, spanners in their correct and the original plastic bag.
Original jack and handle

ON THE ROAD
The car starts on the button
There are no untoward noises or smoke and the engine is just so smooth when warm and unmistakably one that has covered just 19, 300 miles
The gears changes up and down just as they should.
On the road the car drives like an absolute dream - I love it - M. O. T. until March 19th 2021 with no advisory notes.

HISTORY FILE
1. V5C (logbook)
2. MOT March 2021
3. Hand book and Haynes Manual book
4. Some history and MOT certificates,

SUMMARY
E74WYB has covered just 19, 300 miles and spent most of its life in door being cosseted as an indoor exhibit.
A very, very rare opportunity indeed, don’t miss it because it is highly unlikely that you will ever get another!

VALUE
This Montego will be of interest to Classic car Fans, enthusiasts and investors alike.
Low mileage, history, condition, and will contribute greatly to the value of any classic. This one not only ticks all these boxes but excels in all of these categories.
You should not confuse this car with other examples available - how do you value something so rare?
£10k perhaps? well maybe, certainly well in excess of that figure in a few years’ time if kept in this condition.
MY asking price though is not set anywhere near, I suspect you can buy a cheaper one with more mileage, in need of thousands to bring to this car’s standard. However, this will be a show winner from the day you pick it up.

VIEWING
Social distancing rules will need to be strictly adhered too

I will, of course, be happy for serious buyers to view the car by appointment with reasonable notice.
If you are unsure of being able to acquire the relevant funds equal to that expected price you should question, for both our sakes, whether you should come to view.
Please be sure that this is the vehicle that you want before view. If you have any doubt come and see it first or at the very least telephone. However, if you require someone else to sanction the purchase, i. e. your wife’s permission, please get it before you come to view.
The Vehicle is located in Louth Lincolnshire. I really am very approachable and welcome any questions about the vehicle.
