The owner used this E-Type as his daily vehicle for the first year, so in December 1973 Reading Garage carried out full Ziebart rust proofing at 541 miles. All the related paperwork is with the car and the original Ziebart sticker is still in place on the hard-top rear window. As they were closer to the owner's workplace, multi franchise dealership Hughes of Beaconsfield maintained the car in its first year with services in December 1973 at 1061 miles, in February 1974 at 3700 miles and finally in June 1974 at 7860 miles. At this point, the owner decided to buy a more practical workhorse, and purchased a Jaguar XJ6.
After a year of regular use, the E-Type was now going to spend more time in its warm, dry garage and only used sparingly. In 1982, just 154 miles on from its last service, the E-Type went back to the supplying dealership Arnold and Andrews for a service at 8014 miles. They carried out a basic service, replaced the thermostat, fitted new top radiator hoses, steam cleaned underneath the car and re-undersealed it. In 1984 just 14 miles further on at 8028 miles, the E-Type was back with Arnold and Andrews and had £1963. 52 spent on having the rear cage unit removed, steam cleaned, sandblasted, painted and fitted with brand new brake discs and pads and new road springs. The exhaust system was also replaced, the front suspension steam cleaned, and new ball joints and suspension bushes fitted. The supplying dealer also fitted a re-conditioned radiator, new header tank, new alternator, and new oil switch.
In February 1985 at 8036 miles 42 VUR was booked into Arnold and Andrews for the only paintwork the one owner recalls having to be carried out. The invoice states the Jaguar dealership grounded out rust marks on the lower front-end stone chips, and the paint was stripped off the N/ S/ F wing and re-painted. The invoice amounted to £425. 50 for the minor paintwork. In 1986 at 8512 miles the Jaguar went to local garage Highway Garage in Maidenhead for its MOT test and they fitted a new wiper motor and park switch. The E-Type covered another 500 miles or so over the next two years, MOT tests with the car at 8823 and 9041 miles.
In 1990 the V12 was treated to a new water pump but throughout the 1990's the car was hardly driven. It was regularly MOT tested and records show the car covered just 300 miles from 1990 to 2000. In 2000 42 VUR was treated to a new ignition pack and in 2002 the car was taken to a specialist Motor Engineer for a new exhaust down pipe. In 2003 the same engineer stripped, cleaned and rebuilt the carburetors and in 2004 replaced the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, replaced brake caliper bleed nipples, replaced some coolant hoses, cooling fan relay, steering rack gaiters, track rod end covers and replaced the entire exhaust system with a stainless steel unit, mileage 9734. In 2009 Powerbell Services, Jaguar Specialists who took the site of the supplying dealership Arnold and Andrews replaced door sill rubbers and in 2014 at 9889 miles carried out £1325. 22 of work to include a service, new front brake pipes, new battery terminal boots, new battery, brake master cylinder and a new pair of door handles. The E-Type has covered around 30 miles since its last service six years ago.
Very rarely do we ever see a car that has every replacement part documented throughout its lifetime and this absolute time warp is incredibly honest, original, and genuine. The car comes with its original dealer pack and manuals, passport to service book, original Ziebart paperwork, original brochure, spare key in envelope, MOT's dating back to the 1980's and a copy of Jaguar World Magazine from January 2010 when the car and its owner was subject of a large feature. The cars original tool roll is in place, even some original Jaguar screen wash from the 1970's is in the boot!
On arrival with us, a short road test was conducted, and we are pleased to report this E-Type drives exactly like a 10, 000 mile car would. Its tight, sharp, precise, sits correctly and the V12 engine and four speed manual gearbox are as you'd expect on an E-Type a few months old - its outstanding. Due to the limited mileage its covered over the past six years, we will be carrying out a major service, and evaluating any other pre-sale work shortly. This is a true time warp, its largely original, never required structural work and having been dry stored in a de-humidified garage, this low mileage car has superbly preserved. Of course, it has signs of age being 47 years old and never even treated to a full re-paint, however it presents incredibly well with surprisingly bright paintwork, bright chrome and a totally original interior with smart soft top hood. Interior wear from the cars first year is evident, but the one owner from new tells us his feet did not ever touch the original carpets due to overrugs being in place, explaining why at 47 years old they look brand new! This is a true collector's piece, but also a car that can continue to be driven and well maintained, not requiring any major work. There are not many more one owner E-Type's left to come onto the market, this is an incredibly rare opportunity and we welcome enquiries.
