The Avanti is a true motoring icon. The term is over used but in this case it’s very apposite. The car broke new ground when launched, and Andy Granatelli (STP) set 29 Land Speed Records with the R3 supercharged making it the fastest production car at 178 mph!
It was the first car to come with front disc brakes as standard and its looks fitted perfectly with the space age zeitgeist of the early 1960’s. It’s still looks astonishingly ‘out there’ by today’s standards.
This stock, 19,000 miles Supercharged R2 comes with the highly desirable and rare 4 speed manual which has been upgraded with a Hurst quick shift. The rear differential is a positraction limited slip with traction bars eliminating axle tramp.
These cars enjoy a strong and dedicated fan base and the car has benefitted from previous owners upkeep. The car remains stock in all respects but the last owner added some subtle, but substantive modern improvements. These include AMG 4 pot calipers and vented discs; daylight running lights; 3 point retractable seat belts; full stainless steel exhaust; upgraded Cibie headlights; Koni dampers; battery master switch; new alloy expansion tank; electric assisted steering; high level brake light. The car - unlike the original R2 SC also has AC fitted. Finally, the cars exquisite and unique profile is enhanced by new, period correct, American Racing Torque Thrust alloys sitting on as new whitewalls, whilst inside the superb upholstery, door cards and dashboard have been lifted further by the addition of a glorious Nardi steering wheel.

legendary Jet Thrust V8 enjoys a reputation as being unbreakable and utterly reliable. With the Paxton Supercharger it’s shoves our 289bhp. Incidentally note the unique ref number UUU 289 which matches the cubic inches and alone must be worth over £1000.
The car was subject to a comprehensive restorative rebuild in 1990. A good point to mention the epic history file which stretches way back and includes photos of the rebuild. The original build sheet is included plus a massive list of the work and expenditure over the last 30 years.
The chassis is quite superb and the suspension and underpinnings likewise. The car passed its MOT in February with no advisories which says it all.
A quite superb example and must be one of the very best available anywhere in the world. An appreciating classic but one that is very, very useable.
